Default UK Customs question

I'm tracking a parcel coming to me from Canada and the website says it hit UK Customs at 15:30 on the 27th.

How long does it normally take stuff to clear customs? I've not had any mails or calls about vat or duty to pay yet so why is it taking so long? Do they not know how excited I am???

Depends.
I've had stuff in there for over a week at times.

The last thing I bought from the states cleared customs pretty quickly, was delivered to the Royal Mail Office and I received a letter to pay the duty when I went down to pick it up.
I think payment methods depend on the carrier.

If it is being delivered via Parcelfarce they will send you a letter to let you know that you have to pay them the VAT, Duty and Clearance fee before they will arrange delivery.

Usually takes a few days for them to get the letter printed and sent out.

A letter??

On paper??

How quaint...

If they'd call or mail me I could pay straight away.

It's gonna be a glorious weekend and I have a PRM intake stuck in a cage in an airport somewhere.

Although, if I put the Canada Post tracking number into the Parcel Force tracking site I get...

27-05-2009 17:59 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING
27-05-2009 17:59 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES
27-05-2009 17:57 International Hub Arrived in destination country
27-05-2009 08:59 Heathrow Airport Arrived at destination country
26-05-2009 10:12 Delivery Agent - TORONTO Left origin country

More info than on the Canadapost website but no ref number to pay customs charges.

Looks like I am waiting for the snail mail letter. Once I've paid, do they deliver by horse and cart??

You'd think they'd be joined up between tracking and paying and give you the option to pay straight away rather than printing letters...

That is why I call them ParcelFarce ......

I will try and avoid buying anything from anyone that uses them.

Agreed next time get it classed as a 'gift' no charges but risky if it gets lost/damaged etc.

I have escaped a few charges in the past from years ago, though i got done on some shocks in Jan but then again it was a big box
