Van suspension
My 04 Combo van's MOT is due this week. For the last month or so I hear a
knocking from the front, im not worried as I thought it could be either sloppy
brake pads, cv joint or link bar. All of which I have replaced some time with
cheap parts via work
.
Anyway I thought I ought to take a look and at least clean the cv grease from
the inside of the wheel that squirted out due to me over filling it! (GM cv boots
are notorious for splitting). So tonight I found this wedged against the body
and brake pipe.

Heard that its getting very common these days, broken springs. On my trip
to work there has appeared a mile of new speed bumps, too wide to straddle
and very 'sharp'. I'l go a little slower from now on.
Russ.

I hate speed bumps too.
Thought I would be the first to comment on your lovely work-worn hands Russ. Mine used to be like that when I was in business.
A haughty customer rudely referred to them asking what my husband thought of the state of them. I replied that he was delighted as they were making money for us through honest toil.

It's usually down to the poor design associated with the spring and the lower spring mount. The 'cut' edge at the bottom digs into the next coil up, so it eventually snaps.
Lots of garages are seeing more suspension jobs as the number of f**king road bumps increases. They should be bloody well banned.
Send the bill to your local authority and see what they say. If enough of us complain, they may think twice. Oh no...wait...they wouldn't. They're pre-occupied making sure they're PC.

Lots of Mercs and BMW suffer from this problem along with quiet few makes in general. At my recent MOT the owner of the garage who did my MOT was saying he had failed no less than 3 cars that week with broken coil springs
One Merc, one BMW and one KIA, the S passed again with no comment at all apart from slightly low rear pads, at 9 years old
The end of a coil sring in olden days, just get my Zimmer and incontinence pants, were always "closed and ground" ie properly finished but most car springs i have seen now are not and obviously cheaper to manufacture. Although the location cups are shaped to house the wonky end.
My Citroen C2 sounds like a bag of rusty spanners over speed humps and other road imperfections, been back 3 times but to no avail.

I preferred Van Suspension's earlier, more bluesy stuff.
It's not just broken springs; these 1.8 Tonne cars wreck their bushes & balljoints early, too. These dorks who think they can pound over road tits in a 2.2 tonne ML with multilink are in for one hell of a big bill!

Bloody great, we have about 10/15 springs going out the warehouse door every day, a big increase as speed humps get more popular with councils. as an aside we only give the years warrant on springs if fitted in pairs.
