Default Volvo S80

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have any experience of the Volvo S80?

Thinking about buying an old one 2.9 petrol as a beater as they seem good value for money at the moment.

I've never owned an auto before so I'm a little concerned about reliability on a 10 year old car.

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/ seems to be down at the moment, I just hope the cars are more reliable than the website!

All opinions welcome!
Thanks
Alan

Very competent car indeed.

Very dull to drive indeed.

Actually, they're pretty solid reliability-wise.

My ex neighbour had one.

Never missed a beat, good stereo and spacious but he sold it after a year as he found it dull.

Bought a Legacy, 2 weeks after we did......

Will have the turning circle of an oil tanker. Don't get it serviced at a main dealer as they are hideously expensive.
Should be very reliable and comfy but rather dull. And make sure you have a good supply of spare bulbs.

The 2.9 makes a very good LPG convert. I owned one for 3 years and about 80k miles. Was excellent, comfortable and problem free, not for driving fast but the turning circle wasn't as bad as all that. Great big boot as well. It's an awful lot of car for the money. Avoid the Volvo sat nav, it's unspeakably awful.

Thanks for the replies.

Dull and reliable is exaclty what I'm after at the moment so the Volvo sounds perfect.

Mate of mine used his on his Volvo.

I shouldn't have laughed.

You know that R&R joke about only having to punch the information into a drum machine once? Well, Volvo SatNav is a real drummer in comparo.

the funny thing is, it's still shit. The even funnier thing is that Aston Martin use the Volvo Sat Nav! It actually says alot about buying an Aston you really are just paying for the looks, the badge and the noise

Just ordered a S40 with stop start for work.
It don't get much cheaper to run, and the office is tidy....
