So Autocar are reporting that VW are to buy a majority stake in Proton who of course own Lotus.

So a german Lotus ? Shame, but it's probably better off than in the hands of the koreans.

VW is a shock if true. But they have had their eye on Lotus' market for a while. Their little diesel Elise-a-like was apparently very highly developed and rather neat. I guess they've decided it would be cheaper to buy them than to compete.

 

Ooh they can put a nice TDi lump in an Elise - give it some torque

I'd like to see that - VW's wonderfully refined cancer engine in an Elise:

I reckon around 20 mins, it would have shaken all the bolts out of the Elise!
