it's a corking proposition.. IF you're in the market for a big quick saloon you can drift and certainly a better proposition than the new uberfangled M5
i always liked the vx220, again it suffered from the badge but in reality had a better motor than the elise until the toyota lump came along. and there was the turbo version...

I have taken car advice of him and avoiding german car dealers.

Those RS4's, M3's and 911's are rubbish
I'd much rather have something lashed together from old Vauxhall parts and pig iron.
Seriously though, go test drive one and let us know if your going to buy it, I'd be interested to know what you think of'em

It sounds to me like you are just pulling out tired inaccurate clich
Reasons not to buy the Monaro:
- Depreciation disaster, I can't think of a worse car to buy? (maybe a Cayenne is on par)
- MPG, shocking
- Holden, do we really trust or know much about the Australian build quality, how is it better than Vauxhall / Opel?
- Vauxhall Dealers, just go into one, speak to the staff and you will never return
- 420bhp from a 6.2 V8 - hardly impressive?
- 1812kg - interesting to read that the same people that moan about hot hatch weight find this acceptable?
- Performance is around the same as my 135i...
On the plus sides, I bet it sounds amazing, will be great fun as a RWD big engined monster.
But, I can't help feel that a used RS4 or M5 is a better proposition.

MPG - and? It's not for economy. If you are worried about MPG you look at the VAG oil burners.
Holden - Very good. A LOT better than Opel. They need to be as Oz has very good laws (for the consumer) regarding goods unfit for use.
Dealers - Agreed. But go to an indipendant.
420bhp - It's a lazy V8. I'd prefer it to a stressed high revver.
1800kg - Yup, but it's a big saloon. It's not a nippy FWD shopping hatch.
Performance - 135i .. I'd take the Holden thanks.
Used RS4 or M5 will still be a lot more in initial payment and running costs. Also they have a lot more tech in them (good or bad thing as the cars get older?).
