I don't think a golf would match the BM would it? Ours strikes me as very much posh hatch though it's a GTD not i

Nice enough but not a car to stir the soul

I use the BM as a commuter and I feel like I'm constantly filling it up. It bongs at me with c60 miles left and does a bit worse than your Veedub.

I was thinking Golf GTi because...well, no-one seems to find much wrong with it and yet to see a bad review. Although as you say it could be just not quite interesting / fun enough.

Today I had a run down to Portsmouth to have a look at an RS6. Why?
Well, having heard rumours of delays in 135i production I want to have a plan B. The Audi dealer in Porsmouth had an '09 RS6 with 79,000 on the clock for £29k.
On the way there I saw a BMW dealer and asked them to check on production for "my" 135. April. Gutted.

While there I had a look at the Merc dealer for AMGs and got to listen to a £41k C63AMG Coupe. Glorious.
After that I took the RS6 for a spin and I have to say if you didn't see the plate or the odomoter you wouldn't know it was a 5 year old car. The performance was unbelievable. In sport mode the rev counter went from 3,000 to 6,000 almost instantly. It handled the motorways with ease, as you'd expect, very easily cruising slightly more than 70.

We also tried some lanes where the ride was firm but not uncomfortable.

The only thing which stopped me buying it there and then is.... finance. As you can expect leasing a £30k car and buying one are different things. Part of the point of the trip was to find out how different while also seeing if I could get on with an RS6 (I really could). Sadly I don't have £30k to spare. So back to the drawing board.

I imagine an RS6 has the ability to bankrupt small countries

Don't they have ceramic brakes? The replacement cost of discs is scary and even pads are silly money I believe.

My theory for running costs is (power x (weight squared))

Heavy cars destroy your wallet
