Default Welsh road trip

I am planning a Scottish road trip but had a thought that instead of spending 4hrs on the M6 getting there I might as well do a Welsh road trip, the plan is to have a couple of over night stays - can anyone recommend me some good roads please? The plan will be to head from North to South.

I happened upon a great road driving up there in the Mazda last week. I think it was the B4518 north of Llanidloes. Don't bother doing the Pandy Road North of Llanbrynmair though, too small to open the taps.

All that was going north, sorry. As per Haynes, south is the reverse of the above!

If you ask our leader nicely I'm sure that he'll let you have the route that we used for Megameet 10.5 in May.

Some excellent driving. We were based in Llandrindod Wells, and the route went south into the Brecons. The AA van driver with an attitude problem may still be there. He doesn't like people enjoying "his" roads.

Be sure to do the roads around the Elan Valley - fantastic back drop too!

My mates and I do a trip every couple of years to Wales for 2-3 days, either from North to South or South to North.

So if you need any recommendations of good accommodation aswell, then give us a shout.

Thanks guys.

Current routes are as follows:

Day 2

Plan is to stay in a travelodge for £40 a night.

Any advice on the routes would be gratefully received.

I have just got back from a welsh road trip. Some amazing roads.

Looks like you have everything planned that I did. The Evo Triangle, Llanberis Pass & Black Mountain Road are amazing. Wish I took the S2k!!

This fella was a bit too eager on the black mountain rd!

Took my trusty alfa.. !

Llanberis... ooof

I went from Bristol, stayed in Llanrwst, then travelled back.

Be aware, everything is heavily sign posted for speed cameras, although the only copper I spotted was recovering the z3! Otherwise the roads were empty and it was amazing.

I was out in the motorhome last week and went via newport area up to Builth Wells via Brecon then on to Aberystwyth. Came back from Portmeirion to Builth wells again then via newport.

As soon as I got home I wanted to go straight back in the s2000.

Great roads, great views
