Nick/Aldfort,

I wish I could feedback on your points, but quite frankly... I can't!

I am a driver not a mechanic!

They did actually get it out of reverse when they came out... not sure how! Suspect they just used a little more force than me... I was gentle as I did not want to break it!

Wonder how that compares to the VX220 Turbo, they are too fast for the road IMO. That power is ok in a big car but in something that has a roof height less than the average door mirror i'd be worried someone wouldn't see me and the rest is history!

Butyou'd happily sell me a supercharger for mine. Thanks!

Having done some more research it appears the 111R Toyota clutch is prone to early failure.

I'm feeling a little happier knowing this and will be looking forward to getting the Elise back Monday.

In the meantime, the TT is providing some fun. Awful in the corners but plenty of power.

I'm now off to blow dry my hair!

Right then!

The clutch has been replaced with a new one!

Root cause has been confirmed as mis-treatment from previous owner.

The clutch got VERY hot at some point and this effected the clutch fly wheel.

This has now been skimmed and along with the new clutch, has a warranty for this work.

Trouble is... what the feck does a fly wheel do and how does skimming help?

I've been told Lotus said there was no reason to replace the fly wheel and that it just needed skimming.

What do you clever (mechanically at least) people think about that?

Nick

PS: Gone in to have the paint work sort now, so still in the TT (or Tittie as Mr Graves likes to call it! )

if the clutch has worn really low

scoring of the flywheel may occur

skimming removes the scoring

was a female previous owner wasn't it?

I expect she did the sportscar thing and has now moved on to tattoos

Pronounced ta'oos.

The surface of the flywheel may become blued and warped by really serious overheating and get cementation on its face (snigger). Which may have caused clutch drag, meaning gear selection was tricky.

You basically grind the farquhar flat again (like when you warp your disks) with a grindy wheel and all is hopefully well again.

Thanks guys.

So I don't need to insist on a new fly wheel then?
