Default Wheel/Tyre size help for the BM

Hello,

My E46 Touring is currently running on 225/50/17 wheels.

Being a BM and useless in the snow, I was looking at getting a set of winter tyres later this year.

A guy at work has a new company car and said I can have his old winter tyres (fitted to Merc alloys at the moment) if I want them. These are 225/55/16.

There are so many OEM wheel options for the Beemer I'm sure there's one set that will fit those tyres. Can someone tell me what size of wheel I would need for this size of tyre?

Cheers

Neil

M-B & BMW still run quite low offsets; you might find the M-B wheels fit! Dependent on bore size, of course.

Anything between 7.5 & 8.5 ought to fit.

I realise this Dan. I'm asking which wheel size I need to buy to run a 225 profile on a 16. Seems the BM standard size is 205/55/16 instead of 225/55/16. Will the wider tyre fit on the standard wheel?

I'm pretty sure the 225 will run on the 7J wheels from what I've read. But am I going to get problems with the taller 55 sidewall?

Taller tyre wall = slightly longer lever and minutely more flex but being snow tyres should be the main thing.

I would ask if you can have on sale or return/refund if they're sh*te on snow

Completely off topic I was looking for a 'chance it' tune and came across this
which features some nice instruments and a cool location!

Neil I cant comment on if the wheels will fit.

Regarding the tyre size,

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
225/50-17 4.4in 12.9in 25.9in 81.2in 780 0.0%
225/55-16 4.9in 12.9in 25.7in 80.9in 783 -0.4%

The -0.4% is the change on what your speedo will indicate.

From my original link, looking through a few sets - this one comes up as running on 225/50/16 - with 7J wheels.

and here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-Spider-...#ht_1182wt_905

The difference between 50 & 55 profile will be negligible.
