there does seem to be an increase in the number of people willing to voice an opinion on other people's driving/parking/car/etc

these seem to mostly middle-aged men

since these are also some of the most obstructive and malicious drivers you will encounter

and that they are usually driving a heap of some description

it's hard to escape the conclusion that they are motivated by bitterness and jealousy

sign of the times maybe - a lot of peoplle simeltaneously entering the second half of their life

with nothing to show for it beyond a middle management job, Zafira diesel, wife with a perm and two lardy kids

I loathe the idea parent/child spaces.

Why do they get special treatment

Don't say it's because it saves the rest of us.

Car park spaces seemed to have been designed and not updated since the 1960's.

Next they'll be parent/child check out tills-because that'll get the inconsiderate mother/child combination out of our faces asap.
Not at all, it's because they have some brat they have to strap into a car which requires them to open the door fully, rather than being able to squeeze in.

I don't resent them, but I do think the other "normal" spaces should be wider.

To stop muppets or fat scumbags dinging doors.

Exactly what the weirdo's were who stroked my tyres.

I mean, why on earth would you walk past a random car in a carpark and feel the need to inspect its tyres !! Yep the shoulders are worn but the tread on the tyre is fine (looks almost new in fact) and how would you even notice the tyres unless you were looking at them !

If it was that bad, why not report it to the authorities !!!!

I nearly went over to talk to them but figured that would make it worse and I was just leaving the car in the carpark - didn't want to come back and find it vandalised.

And yes it was 2 middle aged blokes with paunches who got in a namesless blob (the car I mean!)

They were designed to be for mothers with small babies. Its not easy to shop while lugging a child seat around for 3 months or so.

You need extra space, not only to allow access to put the child seat safely back in the car, but also for somewhere to put the trolley containing your child while you unload them.

The problem is political correctness and selfish bastards.

Now they are 'parent and child' spaces....(does that mean I can bring my dad ?...he's 78 but I'm his child )

...and no one is...well..........polite anymore

In german airports they have well lit spaces, near to exits in car parks for women, and guess who uses them ?.....yes...women.

You wouldn't get that here.

I've no problem with parent and child spaces.

Makes sense that a mother trying to get her kids in and out of the car might need a bit more sense.

But go put them at the back of the car park, not the front, and see how many parents would used them.

Where as I would glady go to the back of the car park to have an larger parking space.

BTW Jo, are you sure the guys were not checking out your alloys for kerb marks! Women's parking and all that....

1. Notice how you assume "mothers".

Lots of people need extra space.

Maybe it's because they have a big car.

Maybe it's because they have a frail relative.

Maybe its because they have been shoppong and bought large bulky items.

Maybe its because they can't trust other people to be responsible and open doors without banging them into your car.

Which bright spark decided to call them parent & child.

Why not make all spaces wider AND longer.

2. Sounds a sensible idea.

I think that would work here.

People will see it is for safety-not a ill conceived marketing exercise.

Please tell me those weren't done in a carpark.

I never understand why the parent needs to bring the ****ing child to the supermarket in the first place. Leave it at home with dad/mum/gran/uncle/13 year old baby sitter/ pet dog.

Because they have to put up with looking after their own offspring, when the creche lets them down.

Kids usually pay no attention to their parents because;

1. They command as much presence as a wet haddock.
2. The kids have forgotten who these people are.

Jo,

I hope that door ding didn't happen in the pub, the other night; I thought we got away with it!

(Stupid slit in Hubby's E-Klasse squeezes it in between Jo's & my car @ 4th attempt - other side of carpark had room for Eddie Stobart & Norbert Dentressangle!)

I hate the general public, they are complete arseholes.
Amen to that!!

Jo, owning a scooby and suffering door dings go hand in hand I'm afriad. The bodywork is paper thin and as such it will dent if you even look at it the wrong way. The S2000 was armor plated in comparison!! I make a point of trying to park very carefully as even a slight contact will cause a 'ping' that will be visible from certain angles.
