Nice photos. My son and I spent 15 days last summer doing both the land and inland passage. We had a great time.

PEACE and safe

UNC04...

Were you on a land/cruise or other type of tour?

We (i.e. my wife and I) did a "cruisetour" with Princess Cruises, which is a cruise followed by a land tour (or vice versa). For the land part, Princess has their own lodges, buses, train cars ... the works. So it's similar to a cruise in that they take you somewhere and drop you off for a bit, and then you can do stuff on your own or do "official" excursions through the tour desk.

Here's a map of where we went.

More info here: Details on Princess Site

We decided on an organized land tour (instead of just renting a car and going out on our own) because we had never been to Alaska before (i.e. we didn't know what we were doing), and so having most of the details handled for us was nice. The only downside is that you don't get to stay in one place very long.

We did rent a car at the end of the tour in Anchorage to drive down to Seward and take a Kenai Fjords boat tour. The drive down is very scenic, and the Kenai tour is a must, IMO. That's where I got many of the good marine mammal and glacier shots.
