Annoying rattle at idle
So for a while on my car, maybe even since I have bought it, there has been an annoying rattle when I am sitting at idle. I fist noticed it this past winter. Since I found out my clutch needed to be replaced about 3 months ago, I thought that was it.
Well I replaced the clutch on Saturday and when I cranked it up, rattle was gone! Now however, it is back. I don't think it is the clutch, as the flywheel we installed was resurfaced and George did the clutch, and he said he has done 5-6. Plus I don't see how it could be the exact same noise with 2 different clutches, and not always be there. It sounds like a standard rattle, and goes away as soon as I start moving. I will try to get a sound clip as soon as I can. I think it is worse when the car is warm.
Any input is appreciated. The noise is annoying and kinda embarrassing to be honest. Thanks guys.

Where does the noise sound like it is coming from? Maybe the resonator is coming loose on the Invidia. Also aftermarket exhaust can cause rattles due to the different pitch and frequency of the drone @ idle. My Toda and my friends J's and Buddy club exhausts caused a rattle from the trunk just off idle when the RPM's would dip. It was caused by the sheet metal plate on top of the fuel tank access spot. But the only reason we heard it was because installing a roll bar menas elimination of the back tray, which allowed for noise from atop the tank to transfer into the cabin.
Hope this helps Craig

Yeah, check your exhaust hangers, as well, Josh. I've seen them cause exactly what you describe when they are too loose. One of my Ohio buddies was convinced he had a broken baffle sloshing around inside his Comptech, but it was just loose hangers....

Thanks guys. It may have started with my exhaust, because that was the first thing that I put on. It sounds like it is coming from under the car. I will crawl around under there as soon as I can get her in the air.
An exhaust hanger is exactly what it sounds like too, but from under the middle of the car, not so much the rear. Thanks again everyone.
Wish I knew someone local with a jack...

Well if you just want some lift time, give my buddy Eddie Coto a call at the Firestone Complete Auto Care Center on University Drive in Durham.
It's in the back of what used to be South Square Mall.
I bet he can help you out, once you tell him it's an S2000.
Diagnose the hangers by trying to move them around by hand, and see if the sound is similar to what you are hearing. My Ohio buddy said you could move his hanger back and forth in the slot and make a nice TIC TIC sound - exactly what he was hearing at idle.
