I did some research on my own and found the emissions warranty information from Honda's site. On my '02, they list the same 3yr/36k miles as the regular warranty. After MY 2006, they list 8yr/80000miles on emissions componants. The EPA's website says the 8/80k should apply to any vehicle newer than 1995, however.

The good news, though, is that the service guy I talked to is an S owner that recently moved up here from Florida and a really cool guy. Ask for Scott if you take your car to Breakaway.

I also peeked at the comptuer screen and got a good chuckle at this comment in the notes: "CUSTOMER HAS A DEVICE INSTALLED TO MONITOR ENGINE RPMS" I must admit to being significantly more at ease about leaving my car there.

The Federal government requires 80k on catalytic converters, 24k on the other components from the manufacturer - what did you Honda dealer say about the cat specifically?

Did you see the '78 Accord they have there? I was watching it on eBay. Went for $2,200 yesterday and it has a new motor in it, they say. I like the older Hondas.

Yeah, I saw it parked inside the service bay. Very cool. That would be a great daily driver.

I just got the call. Breakaway Honda is covering the cat as a warranty repair! That is a most pleasant and welcome surprise!

Nice result, but they really are obligated to do so. The car companies griped about the old 5/50 emissions systems warranty that applied to ALL emissions system parts. The compromise was the 8/80 for major components and 2/24 for others. So, the last time I took a math test, 79k is less than 80k.

True, but I was expecting to have to whine about it. Actually I was expecting something along the lines of: "You have a rollbar, aftermarket exhaust and other mods. You probibly track the car, which voids the warranty."

and I am surprised that Breakaway was so cooperative. That's good to hear.

I am still suffering from my experiences with my 99 Passat. More often than not, they found a way to say that items were not covered under the base warranty, the emissions warrranty, or the so-called 100k powertrain warranty.
