For a few weeks, I have had a vibration that is prominent on acceleration. At cruise, there is no sensation which to me rules out a wheel balance problem.

On hard left turns, no vibration but on hard right it is very noticable.

My initial guess is the right CV/Axle.


I took it to the dealer for opinion. The service manager is a stand up guy and I trusr his input. I took him down the road and then he put it on the lift. He inspected the engine and tranny mounts at my suggestion. No problem there.

He is convinced it is the right CV.

After getting a parts price from Hinda($600.00),i decided on an aftermarket or rebuilt. I see prices of $45.00 up plus core.



Just wondering if anyone here has had a problem like this and where they got their CV.



Any help is greatly appreciated.

 

For the price of a reman, and the amount of miles you'll get out of it, why not? I have no problem with a reman part from a good company. I like Beck and Arnley, and Cardon. They're two of the better reman shops.

Have you swapped the cups yet? It made my car run like new again at 96k.

Yup Lee...I swapped my cups yeeeeeeears (and easily 100K miles) ago...and my original CVs are still rolling along. For me, my swap did the trick. I'm currently at 246K miles on the odo...still running Konis on lower perch w/ KG/MMs

What does he mean swap the cup? does he mean just take the left and swap with the right? how dow that fix the issue? won't that just move the the problem area to the other side of differential?

still don't get it, Lee said he found one for $45, why not just get rid of the old CV joint all together instead of moving the bad one to the other side and still live with the symptom in reverse.

 

Hey Johnny,

It isn't the CV axles that are the problem. The cups that are connected to the rear diff get pitted where the bearings that are on the end of the axle contact them and that causes the vibration. By swapping the cups from side to side the bearings are once again contacting a smooth surface and no more vibration.

I hope that makes sense.
