You can remove the axles by just unbolting the rear diff as well. I pulled mine out completely when I was installing my Hasport diff mounts. Its easier than messing with the ball joints if you don't have a tool. I was able to move the diff around enough to completely pull out the axles and install one piece spacers without touching the suspension or even removing the tires.
