Ok... I do not drink bottled water and heres why.....

Its starts here, EARTH...

70+ percent of the planet we live on is water.

20 US fluid ounces = 0.15625 US gallon

A 20 oz bottle costs.... $1.00

1 gallon of water at price costs $6.67

1 gallon of Premium fuel @ current price...$2.20

Premium fuel makes my S2000 go

Moral of this story... go buy a Brita filter if tap water isn't good enough for you

Bottled water.........what a waste of money. Only modern man is delusional enough to pay for it.

I dont know if this is true but I read soemwhere that 80% of all water we consume has already been processed by someones kidneys. I'm still going to keep on drinking the stuff anyway.

Springtime. Thirty 20 ounce bottles for about $6.00 at Sam's and it comes in convenient "to go" bottles.

Come on Mulder, tell us how you really feel!

Ok, lol...
I work at a large corperate office, I hear people whining all the time about how much gas cost (well used to when it was 2.50+ a gallon) but they would go and buy 3-4 bottles of water everyday. Du whaaa?

I just don't see the purpose. To me, bottle water is teetering on the verge of being a total fad. Like its "cool" to drink bottled water.

Did I miss something? Is the tap water poisoned? Not that long ago, I was in still in school. Seems like I remember water fountains everywhere and no one hesitated to use them. Then the bottled water trend started, and everyone had to have it. Like it was a great discovery... think Teflon or Hypercolor shirts (yeah remember those ) I wonder if those fountains have been used at all since then?

What bugs me the most JAHumphrey is the whole idea of bottling water. If you wiegh the cost per gallon of the tap water thats good enough for you to bathe, cook, clean, eat, and drink against that of your favorite brand bottled water the answer is obvious. Now, factor in those "benefits (someone please explain this to me)" of bottled water and where do you stand?

And if it is thought that bottled water is better... lets not forget that Coca-Cola was bottling water out of the Thames River..... ahh that natural spring taste....

Tap water is plenty good enough for me although I like the Springtime taste better than the Charlotte city water. Don't get me wrong, the Charlotte city water is good. In a taste test, I think the Springtime would win.

Now, as for the whole bottled water thing, it may be as simple as capitalism at its best. Next, they'll be selling us bottled air straight from the mountains, pure and refreshing. Also, for me at least, it really is convenient. We keep bottles of Springtime in the fridge so we can grab one to go on our way out the door. I also drink it while I'm at home. However, I have been known to refill a Springtime bottle with Charlotte city water while I'm at work (from a drinking fountain no less).

As for benefits, I doubt one is more advantageous than the other except for the above mentioned convenience.

Here is a link to Charlotte's 2004 Water Quality Report. The city mails one out to every resident. Now that is a waste of money.

Oh, and my Springtime costs about .64 cents per gallon. I wish I could fine fuel for what I pay for water!

^^ I can see how having charoltte city water could make a difference in taste. Back at home in Georgetown, the city water is terrible due to the chemicals put in the water to clean it of salt (think bleachy taste). But where our house was we had water off of the rural system and it was great.

You hit it on the head when you stated that it is capitalism at its best and they will be selling bottled air, I agree 100%. Its just a shame that people will pay for it.

Florence mails out water quality reports as well. Im not sure about Charlotte but here they add Florine to the water... something you don't get in bottled water if i'm correct...

BTW, what happened to Zangerzone.

Yea, I have no one to blame for my spending money on bottled water but myself.

BTW, growing up (in Raleigh area) we had well water and it was absolutely hideous. The only way to drink it and not puke was to have it very, very cold. We kept containers of it in the fridge. The water had high iron content. Not high enough to cause any health issues, but high enough to make you gag and possibly puke.

Yea, where is Zangerzone? He must be one of those
