what time? you guessed it...BRPDV4! (that's blue ridge parkway drive, version 4 for the text shorthand challenged 
)
we are tentatively planning our (first) BRPD for sunday, oct 18.
for those not familiar with BRPD, it's an action-packed day trip to blowing rock, the parkway, mt mitchell, and a few...twisty...roads.
we will be (as usual) meeting at the IHOP at I-77 exit 25 (huntersville) at 8am for breakfast; we'll plan to leave between 9-9:15 (there will be stragglers-in who will hold us up.)
we will then make our way to blowing rock, where we will possibly stop at my uncle's cabin to park and use any necessary facilities. at that point, we'll make our way up to town and do any sightseeing etc. that's desired. we'll stop in the "old gas station" for lunch, and then make our way to price park for a picnic, photo ops, and annoy the tourists ops.
at this point, we'll either head southwest down the parkway toward mt. mitchell and hwy 80, or we'll head north and include rick's shady valley run (this detail is still in the works.) either way, there will be some fun driving ahead.
at this point, it looks like we're heading to hwy 80
last, we'll head back to blowing rock for dinner, likely the blowing rock grille (this is also subject to change.) we'll then head home, and you'll be back between 9-11pm (hopefully, depending on where you live.)
if you can, respond with an "in" or "out" (preferably "in") so we'll know roughly how many to expect and who to wait on.
if you do decide to wuss out on this, here's a sample of what you'll be missing:
and last, certainly not least, the people

i've been checking the weather several times a day, and it looks like it should be clear and COLD
if you're interested in the drive but not breakfast, you can pm me and and we can come up with a way to meet up

Going to do my best to make it. Looks like a great time. As sad as this sounds, I've never been on a really great drive. What time do you think we would make it back to Huntersville? I live all the way in Lugoff, SC.

probably around 10 back to huntersville, but that depends on a lot of factors. not everyone will be around for the whole trip, so you could leave whenever you want/need.
i'm keeping an eye on the weather...it's starting to maybe look a little iffy. i'll post something up in here by sat. evening if it looks like we're gonna have to re-schedule.

well folks, it's with a heavy heart that i am here to report that due to

i think it's probably best at this point to bail and possibly reschedule. this drive is designed to be top-down, and i feel like the conditions would make it pretty miserable. there's a good chance that i'm still going to go up with the GF (i told her we were going, she got excited, blah blah blah
) so if anyone wants to go anyway and meet up we'll be there. i will keep the thread updated with any news as far as a reschedule date.
