I got pulled over last night and was accused of going 60 in a 45. That doesn't SOUND right to me, and my radar detector never went off. I'm not saying I was going under the speed limit, but 60 doesn't sound right.
It's been years since I got a ticket, and in the year that I have lived in this state I have no tickets at all.
I am not clear on the "points" system here. Or what options I may have.
Is it worth trying to fight it in court? Should I pay it?
I find it odd that the fine is $30, but the court fees (which they expect me to pay even if I don't go to court) are an additional $188,
Any suggestions?

And yeah 188 for court fees is right. I "didn't stop at a stop sign" once when I lived in Mooresville and my ticket was $240, 188 in court fees...
What county are you in? Every county handles their stuff a little different. 15 over is not the end of the world but I think it is 3 points on your license. The big problem is your insurance will go up like 40% on the most expensive car you have for the next 3 years. Most counties in the state will let you get it down to an improper equipment if you get a lawyer and have a clean record otherwise. I lawyer will be between $300 and $350 with court costs included. I guess weigh the added insurance cost to the $350 and go from there.
I am sure you could go to court and talk to the DA and get it down to 9 over pretty easily which will not effect your insurance. Just don't get another one or it will get worse
And trust me you will get A LOT of lawyers contacting you by mail

Definitely lawyer up. You'll spend less than you would if your insurance does go up.
Also ask your lawyer about Prayer for Judgment Continued (PJC). Basically, if you've had a clean record for the past few years, you can plead guilty but they won't "enter" the change against you, thus no insurance points or punishment besides the court fees. More here.

I am in Wake Co. and the violation was written in Wake.
A lawyer seems awfully expensive for a traffic violation. I understand the insurance thing can be a serious pain.
I guess the obvious question is: "Does anyone know any good lawyers?"

I've used him a few times now. Pretty reasonable too.
Were you pulled by a trooper or sheriff or city cop ?
Tim will hook you up, tell him you are on S2KI and he will know. Let's just say he has gotten a fair share of business from the S2000 community
