Default Changing 3 fluids

So I've done some searching around...called three different places and have gotten all different answers.

Looking to change engine oil, tranny, and diff fluid.

Engine has 72,xxx miles so I'm thinking high mileage mobil 1 fully synthetic. But should I use 5w40 or 5w30 or perhaps 10w20? Those were the three recommended to me via phone today. Two were honda dealerships

For the tranny I want to give GM's syncromesh a try. Assuming I can just buy this from a GM dealership correct? Anything special I need to know?

And for the diff... 607 Almasol? Not really sure on this one.

I found the DIY's but I'm just unsure about which fluids to use. Apologies if this is burried in the endless links of faq's

I also posted this in "Under the hood" but I figured that maybe you carolina guys would be nice enough to share your experiences in this climate.

Thanks in advance

I am using GM Synchro with Friction Modifier in the tranny and Lucas 75-140 gear oil in the diff.

I am pleased with both.

For the engine, I run Mobil 1 10W30.

So I would pick out a friction modifier and just add in with the tranny fluid?

I run Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 in the crankcase.
Honda MTF in the tranny.
LE1605 in the diff. (This is the replacement for Almasol 607 - is is a single-weight 120w).

Works for me, although I may try the Syncromesh with Friction Modifiers next MT fluid change, depending on it getting continuing good reports.

I would always go with a 10W in the engine due to high rpm shear, but that is with dino oil. For synth... a 5W would probably be fine, but I'd still go with a 10W.

GMSFM is not found at all GM dealerships, and some will try and sell you normal fluid without the FM, so be attentive to what you buy. Cadillac dealerships typically have it in stock while Chevy dealers do not, for example. make sure you have the part number and its actual GMSFM. price is typically $11-14/qt. I personally find GMSFM better than Honda MTF and I've had both in my car a couple times.

I've always used Mobil1 in the diff because its easy to get and works well, so its all I have exp with.

If you change your oil fairly regularly, you'd probably be ok with regular oil as well. The FSM says to change your oil every 7500. If you go that long I would DEFINITELY suggest a full synthetic. But I changed my oil every 3-4k and haven't had any issues with the regular stuff.

Here is what I use:

Engine oil: Honda 10w-30 (produced by Mobil)
Trans fluid: GM Syncromesh Friction Modified (GM Part Number: 12377916)
Diff Fluid: Lucas Heavy Duty 80w-90

The rear differential is a Hypoid Gear Limited Slip Differential, so basically when choosing a diff. fluid, be certain to check that it is acceptable for Hypoid Gears and is atleast GL-5 rated (Some say that they're only for top off in hypoid diffs)

I am actually changing from Mobile 1 10W30 to Castrol 10W30 syn. I burned more Mobile 1 then I would have liked, possibly due to my VTEC

I have read a bit amount of forum posts about how Mobile 1 burns more then others like valvoline, royal purple, and castrol when it comes to the S2K. I am going to try it out see what it does, it may be the same. Oil is such a long conversation but I went with the majority on this one.

For the tranny I went with MTF but I heard the GMSMFM is pretty good, and I used Mobile 1 for the rear.

One thing I have noticed is that Autozone, and advance have gone up on their prices. Mobile 1 quart is now the same as royal purple $7.99 quart. Their 5 quart jugs are still decent but walmart was only $24 for 5 quarts syn. Basically if it is liquid I am going to walmart first
