Default Cleaning the Engine on the S2000

Hi All,

First let me say I did look this up and saw a couple of posts of cleaning the engine but wanted to ask the local crew

I do have a AEM CAI so keep that in mind.

Has anyone ever run into a issue cleaning their engine by spraying the gunk engine brite, leaving it on for 20 minutes, and then washing it off with a hose.

I just worry about all the electronics in the car. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean

PS: I assume I don't need to cover my Air Filter since it is under the right wheel well.

I have not cleaned my s2000 engine yet (only 6 weeks old) but I do clean the engine on the other two cars every 3 months.

I tried Engine Brite a couple of years ago and I thought it was not as good as the CD2 engine cleaner. Since I have not been able to get CD2 for about 1 year i switched to Castrol Super Clean.

The good thing about the Castrol is that it is bio degradable (if you care) and you don't even have to leave it on 1 minute. The bad thing about it is that if you leave it longer than a minute it will peel the paint off your engine bay!. Definetely not ideal if you are thinking of waiting 20 minutes like you do with Engine Brite.

I never had any problems with the electronics on the other cars. I use a pressure washer to remove the Super Clean spraying a good 4-5 minutes at full blast. The only special instructions : Put aluminium foil on your battery, belts (the exposed parts) and air intake. I have never cleaned an engine with a CAI but I think that as long as you block the air intake with aluminium foil you should be ok.

Since I have never cleaned the engine of my S I am not 100% that what I do for the other two cars is going to work. But I have cleaned the engine of 5 different cars I have owned using the exact same procedure (every three months) and never had a problem ....

Cashout,

Thanks for your response. I did clean my engine with engine brite last night and it looks really good. I didn't want to venture into anything that could peel the paint off the engine bay so I stuck with the Gunk Engine Brite.

I have the car washed, got my costal metal grill on, and got my Spugen exhaust today. Tommorrow I get it installed! i can't wait.

I am going to make a 5 hour trip tomorrow after getting the exhaust installed. Do you guys think I should install with the silencers in or without?

Without. That's the only way you'll know if its too loud.

So, how many miles do you have on your car? I'm trying to gauge if my engine bay is "typically" dirty or not.

Mybad,

I have 18,000 miles and have had it for 2 1/2 years.

Golden,

I have decided to try it without the silencers and if I feel like it is too loud for the long trip, I will put them on. However, there is no way I will ever have the silencers in at any S2k event!

PS: When are you getting your Spugen?

I just spray my engine bay out with water every now and then, then spray CD2 Engine Detailer on it and it continues to keep looking new for a few months. Just let it dry and wipe off any heavy residue.

Oh and the Spugen, definately go w/o the silencers at least until the new wears off, if I can stand the J's single with no cat, anything else can be tolerated.

MyBad, I clean the engine in my cars every three months. The level of 'dirtyness' varies depending on how the weather has been and what kind of driving I have been doing.

The more it rains the dirtier it is as water splashes all over the
place and when it dries it leaves road grime on the egine.

Polen season makes everyting inside green so engine cleaning
is a given for me right after polen season.

Long trips also increase 'dirtyness' as there is more airborne dust
from other cars going fast. In city driving everyone is going
so slow that dust from the road does not get kicked up high enough for it to enter your engine compartment via the grille.

Finally, I like the engine looking like it just came out of the showroom so I tolerate less 'dirtyness' :-)
