In another post, I found a link to this Google Maps hack that allows clickable route planning. You click to place pushpins at various waypoints, then the app calculates the route. It gives a map image and also displays the step-by-step directions, including mileage, for each leg of the route. the map remains "live" for zoom, center, satellite and hybirid.
This is what I'd like to see in the favorite drives thread. Links to actual maps of the routes we can download and print easily. You can basically do the same thing in Yahoo maps beta, listing multiple addresses or intersections. Also, when you mouseover the purple segment of your route, it highlights that part of the text directions. The Google link worked fine for me in Firefox. You probably need to enable Javascript for it to work.
If you have many points to map or a list in a batch file you can use this frontend to load them. http://www.batchgeocode.com/
Interesting. Both Google and Yahoo use the Nactec map database. Google's sat photos are at least a year newer, based on the construction of new homes in my subdivision.
With this kind of competition, these apps will only get better.
Steve, great. I found the app, but have not explored how to get the entire output (map + turn-by-turn directions) available to post, or to get the maps out "live" so you can pan and zoom. Let us know what you figure out.

PS: did you get the disks?
YES...thanks.
I'm with you...I've been trying to figure out how to print or save a copy of a route map...no luck, so far.
