Okay, I do have reason to comment on this thread because I was born and raised in NC (I am 30 now and moved 2 years ago so I spent 28 years in NC and got married there in Oct.). I grew up driving most of the roads you guys post about and I just love it in the mountains! I grew up an NC State fan and love Jim Valvano(??spelling) but I grew older and loved Duke. I will always pull for most ACC teams in the tournament....in order, Duke, UNC, NC State, Wake, Maryland and that's it. The rest of them aren't really ACC teams to me. Anyways, yes Duke is having an unusual "off" or bad year but they are still ranked 17. That totally sucks but is a bad year and next year will be much better. Carolina is kicking ass this year and I think they will win the NCAA championship and I certainly hope they do because I get tired of living in AL and they're all about SEC and football. Our college football in NC sucks but damn we freaking rock at some basketball!!! So, even though Duke is having a bad year they still kick most teams' asses and UNC is having a great year and will do them same! Simply this.....GO ACC!!!!

duke played on hell of a game that night. It was a perfect storm for UNC, even though they came out on top.

1. They were playing in Cameron Stadium
2. duke was coming off a 2 game losing streak
3. It's Carolina vs Duke

I dont care what kinda tem either of them have, one could lose every game and the other could be undefeated, but they will play each other down to the wire almost everytime.

 

Dook played their best game so far of the season at home and still lost. They are indeed having an off season, but being a life-time UNC fan I have had to endure an off-season before... all teams eventually go through it. They are .500 and it is hard to believe but believe-able, after they nearly lost to Holy Cross at home and atleast a handful of other games at home this year I knew it would be a rough year for them. But as Matt said... when UNC & Dook play, throw the books out of the window b/c stats don't mean a thing. I have such a love/ hate relationship for dook because if they were'nt our close rivals UNC wouldn't be the storied program that they are and the same goes for dook as well. Still, I can't help but have this feeling that the broom might be brought out this year.
