Default Gritty paint job?!

Has anyone else noticed that their paint job feels "gritty" in places on their s2k? I can definitely tell it when I use mcguire's clear coat on it. Its hard to buff it back off with a rag cause of the gritty finish. Feels like sandpaper in spots, like on the lower half of the doors, and on the hood.

What is a clay bar?

Yes, its been like that since day one. I actually bought it used from the dealer (leith honda in raleigh) with just over 7000 miles on it. I even tried mcguires #7 on a "test" spot but it didn't help the gritty feel. It works great for getting bugs off the front though!

it basically takes the contaminants out of the paint and makes it smooth its worth a shot they run about $18 for 2 bars and should last awhile

$18 beats a new paint job (even if its under warranty!), I'll give it a shot. Thanks

The claybar recommendation is the best place to start. If the grit is from the road or rail, the claybar will take the grit out of the paint. I have had experience, where a car has run through something that eats the clearcoat and leaves a very rough area. Fortunately, it wasn't the S2000! If the claybar doesn't pick out the grit, you have a problem. You'll have to determine whether it came with a bad paint job, or whether it is something that happened after delivery. In my experience, you may have to see a regional manufacturer's service rep to get a dealer to repair that type of problem.

Good Luck!

The rough paint job is definitely not due to anything coming off the road. Its even rough on top of the trunk.

I've actually thought about trading my 01 in for an 02. Any ideas what I could get trade in value on my 01? It has just over 12,000 miles on it. I'm sure I could get a better interest rate so I wonder if my payments would stay the same, or even drop a little... Hmmmmm.

BMX:

I just posted a message in one of these sections about a local (to RTP), auto detailer who uses Zaino -- a product I have come to learn is best to use. The first stage is a clay bar, which remove the grit which can sometimes occur from brake dust, etc. on new vehicles.

If you are not in this particular area, you could check around for someone, or order the kit yourself.

www.zainobros.com

The local guy here leases the detailing space at Bunkey's on Glenwood; Bill, 417-3287.

I cannot verify his ability, as I have not yet even received my S...but I do intend to visit him shortly thereafter. He did seem to understand the product line very well, when I spoke with him on the phone.

Good luck!
