Default How dark to go

NC state law is 35% (but down to 32% is fine) so I'm thinking of getting 35% tint, however I'm not sure I'd like getting something that light and how it would look on a white car with a black top. I'll also be getting a strip on the windshield, probably 10% (is it just me, or are the factory sun visors absolutely worthless. . .if you put them down, you can only see about 10 ft in front of your car).

Lets see some pictures of legal or non-legal tint jobs from others in the area. On GPW would be great, but anything is better than nothing.

35% will probably be fine... I used to have 5% on a car I once owned and it was a real PITA to get it to pass inspection.

I've seen 20% (I think) on the rear glass and 35% on the sides, and that looked okay to me. I had a car with 20%-25% all around and it was just too dark inside.

In my opinion don't go too dark, couple of reasons:

1) Makes it difficult to see out at night
2) Your top should be down most of the time
&
3) If it doesn't pass, you have to rip it off and redo it, which could become expensive after a while.

Good luck with you decision.

I've had tint on almost everyone of my cars. I will say this don't go too dark!! You will regret it at night when the areas are not well lit. As far as passing inspection, I have never ever had an issue with it. I had 5% tint on my NFR when I had it. I liked the look from the outside and during the day it kept it somewhat cool, but at night it was a pain the in ass to see.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I am leaning heavily toward keeping it legal just to keep it easy. Darkest I would think of going is around 20% though, so I dont think I'd have major problems seeing at night.

Nah, just roll into the inspection station with your top and windows down...they never check that.

I like 35% on my cars, anything darker is annoying when driving at night for me.

my dad has 20% on his S4 and it's kinda dark trying to park it on the street at night even. that's mainly why i stuck with 35%
