Key Replacement in Carolinas
Does anyone have experience or know where to get a key replacement in the Carolinas? After my incident 2 years ago on the Dragon (locked my keys in the trunk) I have decided to go ahead and purchase another key. I do not have the original "cool" S2000 key but am after any sort of replacement for my AP2.
I've researched and saw some people say they have gotten theirs done for between $50-$150. I am hoping I can find someone who will do it for around that price compared to the dealership charging over $200.

I would advise that you keep your discussion of specifics in PM. I'd rather not give thieves more information on how to get keys, especially now that dealers are finally getting a little more cautious about just handing them out to people with VIN #'s.
Thanks!

No discussion of private info will be discussed. The only thing I'm asking for is the best place to get a blank and the cheapest to cut and program.

It varies based on the year of your S, as different years of Hondas have different transponder chips. '04-'05, for instance, used ID13 chip, which my dealer told me made it significantly cheaper - I got a blank cut and programmed for $30. Not the fancy S key (OEM blanks are $180), but it works fine as a backup.
Also of note, don't go on what the dealer tells you over the phone. Both dealers here quoted me about $200 for the part and labor for the plain, non-S key. I decided to walk in and directly ask the parts counter; guy there told me he could just cut it on the spot for the above quoted $30. YMMV.

Check your key's shank for a T5 stamp. They can't copy the transponder from those. They can make a door-only blank from your VIN. They don't even need the old key. They use a desktop machine to cut it from the code. Worked better than my original.
