Looking for options...
Brandon,
I've been through 3 layoffs, one of which entailed my relo to NC last year. I understand the worry, and the uncertainty, especially with a little one on the way. I will tell you that every layoff has gotten me a better job, without fail. I know that's not much comfort right now, but have faith, my friend, I am not the only one who has been through this with a similar result.
Potentially losing a family business is beyond my scope of experience, but the biggest thing I have found is to do whatever you need to do to remain optimistic. I may be ridiculed for this, but prayer worked for me. Big time.
Folks have given you some options that I can't offer, my field of computer network engineering is a little off your beaten path, and we work in dark rooms, inside, for the most part.
I don't think it would be your cup of tea. Unless you want to do some school work first, then we can talk for sure.
Best of luck, and please do keep us informed as things progress.
Say, I did have one idea - a buddy of mine is thinking of opening a garage here in Mebane with lifts, tools, etc. for folks who like to "roll their own" and he's gonna need someone to run it if he gets it off the ground.....
Aside: Jay I just did a search for Industrial Engineer within 100 miles of Mebane, and found 87 openings. Of those, of course, there are probably 5 that fit. But it is not zero, m'friend.

Thanks soooo much everyone for your suggestions, it means more than you guys know... I'm in talks now with some close family in the Auburn, AL area and have a few encouraging prospects down there. Always thought of moving down that way for awhile now anyways, and now it appears the time may be optimistic/favorable.
Thanks again everyone, I love this community!
