Default Lost my job

So the Thursday before New Years my boss comes in and tells me the company is letting me go. I was pretty upset for several reasons but I sighed and started packing my office. I was at the company for 7 LONG years. As bad as a position they put me in, it is also bitter sweet as well. I had not been happy there for the past 5 years and things werent getting any better. Im forced into filing for unemployment but I am kinda freaked out because I dont know if Id qualify for it or not. If there is anyone in the know of unemployment benefits please let me know. In the meantime... if anyone knows of a place looking for a great graphics artist in the Triad area or anyone looking for some freelance work.. please chime in too

You would qualify for unemployment however, you could be denied if your employer refuses the request. I'm not sure of the legalities but he would have to have a strong case for denying. Apply anyway, and see what happens.

Sorry to hear about this.

Go ahead and file. There's actually little the employer can do unless you were showing up under the influence, sexually harrassing others or were guilty of a crime.

So what was it? Were you not bathing regularly?

Sad to hear...but hey, keep the chin up and remember...things happen for a REASON!!! Money is not always the path to happiness. If you were unhappy at work...now you have the opportunity to find something you'll really enjoy!

Hang in there...keep us posted!

airgate is so right. you need money in life, but you shouldnt be miserable just to make good money. i left a job paying well over six-figures because of the stress. seriously, my cell phone would ring and my heart would drop. it took me almost a year to not jump when my phone rang. think new year, new start and do your best. thats what i did. it'll be best in the long run

also, i might be able to help out a tiny bit. i need a basic tshirt designed. nothing too fancy, but need it in illustrator

The previous years working at my company they let me work pretty much my own hours and even if I was sick I never missed a day. But I would come in between 9:10 and 9:20 every day for the past 5 years (mind you I worked there for 7 years). Occasionally at random times during those past 5 years I would get a write up (a grand total of 2) or an occasional verbal warning (no more than 3) for me coming in later than 9am. However in the past they even acknowledged they let me work my own hours. And not one time out of the past 5 years did any downtime in production or anything else resulted from the times I came in. If there was something I NEEDED to be there early for I would be early.

So there reason for letting you go was that you were 10 minutes late everyday? That's ridiculous if they let you work your own hours
