Default Is it a Mid Life Crisis and if so, who cares?

Am I going through a mid-life? I want one of these cars and feel a need to be reconnected to the road (I currently drive an '06 Tacoma). Don't get me wrong, the Tacoma is very practical and I will definitely hold onto it. But I had a VW GTI VR6 and now the kid is off to college and it has been 6 years since I have had that thrill of driving. I am considering the S2K or maybe a Mazdaspeed Miata or BMW M roadster. #1 would probably be first choice and #3 probably unrealistic price and upkeep wise, but not sure what I can really afford-- have to pay for son's college and pop the question soon to the gal I have been seeing for 4 years-- been milkin the cow, time to buy it now I guess :-) Is it realistic to think I could come away with an '02-'04 S2K under 80k, between $15-16K? I know the S2000 is a lot more of a car than the Miata.

New to the forum-- thanks for any advice.

I don't think you will have any problem finding a nice S2000 as described for that price range.

I recently sold my 05 with 124K on the clock in that range.

welcome to the forum.

Lots of fine folks in here

Sometimes I feel like buying a ridiculous street car, like a 700+ whp C5/C6/GTR/etc but then I remember that my driveway sucks.

Or, for about the same money, you could pave the driveway in 'Gift of the Magi' style.

Blacklab99, Based on my experience, my only advice would be to consider what you want to do long term ...then ask that devil on your shoulder what he plans to do with it. If you want to keep your car original, the S2000 is a great street car and sure to become a collectible.

I bought mine as a fun weekend car, took it for a track event, the devil ran wild for a few years, now it's getting a full cage. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't recommend this path. Mod parts are relatively limited and expensive for the S2000 because it was produced in such small numbers.

If you (or your devil) want a heavy modified car, get an S2000 someone else already modified. If you want a car to modify yourself, consider something like an MX5 produced in the millions; replacement parts are inexpensive and mod parts are plentiful.

That's 'The Gift of the Magi'
He sold his pocket watch to buy his wife an ivory comb and she sold her hair to buy him a watch chain.
