My First Autocross Experience
Well after much waffling on events prior I finally said OK I'm going to do it. Am I glad I did! The Clemson Sports Car Club put on a great event in Anderson. I am now hooked.
A couple (well a bunch) of thoughts & thanks!
1--I considered myself an excellent driver till my S2000 told me otherwise. I have to admit I struggled keeping it planted in the rear. Most of that is definitely rookie related.
2--The smoother you keep the car the better it performs (a special thanks to Zach? at the club for riding along for my first run out and sharing this advice). The S2000 will just about take anything you throw at her ONCE but you better be able to align yourself for the next sharp maneuver or she will remind you otherwise.
3--Turn VSA off!!!! I forgot 2 times out of the 7 runs that day. It will cause strange things that you could otherwise avoid.
4--Tire wear was negligible at best so that is no excuse from here on out.
5--I have a lot to learn about tire pressure too. I'll take any advice anyone can offer on this one.
6--I should have hit at least one cone but didn't?! Probably means that I wasn't close enough to them. Could explain the poor times...
7--For those that decide for the first time to autocross--don't think you know everything because you are fooling yourself. Listen to those that have done it a while.
8--My times were not great or maybe I'm being too hard on myself but I did progressively improve.
9--This is the best way to learn the limits of your car without killing anyone.
I can't wait till the next one!
