Default Narrow ticket escape! (Long)

OK... so Ron and I are headed back to the house after a movie tonight (in separate S2K's...he met me somewhere after work on a lovely Friday evening), and I'm in the lead; granted, doing a little bit above the speedlimit (call it 48 in a 35) on Runnymeade Rd, heading towards Colony Rd.

I come to a full stop at the light, turn right, Ron immediately follows (without coming to a full stop), when just about a mile or so down the road, blue lights AND a siren come on. Ron stops; the cop comes around and pulls ME over. The first thing he says is, "In a hurry?", and then asks "Who's your friend?". I responded (in this order), "No sir, not really", and "That's my husband." To which he replies, "Well, he's gone.".

I look in the rearview, and sure enough, Ron has booked! As I'm sitting there trying to act mad to the cop ("I can't believe he left me!), I'm sitting there thinking, "Go Honey....we learned that lesson from Rick Hessel about NOT stopping if someone in front of you gets pulled.") The next thing the officer asked was, "How many tickets have you had?". When I replied that I had none (completely deserved, I'm sure), he just grinned and walked back to his car.

After doing whatever it is they do in the car, he came back, handed me my license & registration and just said, "Slow it down". He told me he'd paced me at 50 in a 35 for "quite a while", but didn't give me a ticket. However, he then told me if Ron had stopped, that he WOULD have given him a ticket for running the red light. (WTF?) The cop then just smiled and said "I wouldn't want to be your husband when YOU get home." I assured him that Ron would be in lots of trouble for "leaving me stranded", while all the while thinking, "Thank God he went on."

So, boys and girls, the moral of the story is what we heard earlier....if you're ever on a run, and the lead person gets pulled, just keep going........All's well that ends well.

Yep that happened to me a few years ago on a bike with some buddies. The lead bike was pulled over and of course we continued. The cop was pissed as all hell thinking he would be giving us all tickets. Although my buddy was pissed as hell that he got snagged.

Btw....I hear the nasty speed-cams start next week. Does anyone know the list of roads targeted....the only one I know is Ballantyne Commons.

I had that happen once before back in high school in my first car...a Toyota MR2. My buddy got pulled over for reckless driving but I just kept on going. I found out later that the cop wanted to pull me over.

Good job!

Way to go, Ron!

MyBride has a way of "looking" at cops who have pulled her and not getting tickets. If we're ever traveling together and she gets pulled, the best thing I can do is get out'a Dodge! She'll handle the rest.

Here is the most complete listing that I have seen, granted some of the listings are for the entire length of the road.

It has been posted on city streets for some time and they do begin June 1st. Apparently it is a year long pilot program that will result in a $50 fine, but no insurance points...

Independence between Briarcreek and Sardis Road North

East W.T. Harris between The Plaza and Idlewild

Tryon Street from 36th to Orr Road

Tryon Street between Mallard Creek Church Road and University City Boulevard

Eastway between Independence and Sugar Creek

West W.T. Harris between North Tryon Street and Technology Drive

Albemarle Road between Independence and Lawyers Roads

Central between Albemarle and Briar Creek

Monroe Road between Sardis Road North and Wendover

Providence between McKee and Providence Country Club

Highway 51 between Park and Alexander Road

Sharon Amity between Lyttleton Drive and East W.T. Harris

Billy Graham Parkway between I-85 and Woodlawn
