This really does just make me laugh. Like I said, this is just another way for our spectacular police force to reach into our pockets. Wouldnt surprise me if in the near future they set such $100 penalties for using excessive tire shine or improperly molded body kits or some crap

The law states it is illegal to cover the plate information no matter how you do it, but if the following is not obstructed, you are okay, even with a clear plastic cover over the whole plate:

Any operator of a motor vehicle who covers the State name, year sticker, or month sticker on a registration plate with a license plate frame commits an infraction and shall be fined under G.S. 14‑3.1. Nothing in this subsection shall prohibit the use of transparent covers that aredo not designed or intended toprevent or interfere with the taking of a clear photograph of a registration plate by a traffic control or toll collection system using cameras."

This law is a precursor to the toll system coming to Raleigh - the State is paving the way to make sure license plates are legible to speed and toll cameras. Last year's front plate motion was voted down, fwiw.

yeah i've been meaning to remove that 'Cary Auto Mall' plate holder for about a year now since I've last been 'bothered' by Morrisville PD about it. I liked having NORTH CAROLINA covered up which is why I kept it on- great for out-of-state hooliganry!

..oh and I hope to hell we do not get speed cameras here! that will be the ultimate lose.
