@Billman250 you're just visiting down here, not moving? Long Island to Carolina would be a culture shock!

Definitely going to make the Dragon event May 15-17, maybe we can assemble a NC convoy over there.
Yeah I grew up in RI and there is plenty of shoulder on most main roads - I rode my 10 speed everywhere with my friends as a kid and never felt unsafe. Moved here in 92 (married a NC girl) and tried riding a few times and scared me every time. Traffic would back up behind me because there was no way to get over for them as the line is typically on the edge of the pavement. People would pass and come close a few times to clipping me. Finally said forget it and ended up getting a mountain bike and we'd ride trails instead.

Joy and I are in the Winston Salem area and would be interested in meeting up to convoy - maybe just meeting in Asheville or something. Depending when we leave will depend if we can do it of course.

Welcome to NC - get ready for the humidity in the summer

If your car is parked outside does it change color? Ours do.

My silver S2000 is garaged so only experiences a slight seasonal color change unlike my poor, black Expedition parked outdoors which is nearly yellow some years. In addition one Spring the local robin family took extreme exception to the Expedition being in the drive and sat on the mirrors and pooped on the car daily -- I now retract the mirrors. I figured they were protecting their baby birds and forgave them -- had to wash the SUV every few days anyway. At least the bears left it alone.

As far as large cities are compared CLT has few bad places. Lots of nice areas: NoDa, Uptown, Southend, South Park, and Ballentyne areas stand out. Just outside explore the Whitewater Center, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens. Concord and Mooresville areas have some great classic/specialty car dealerships and NASCAR race shops. I’m sure others will comment on other favorite areas - including food! I think you’ll be surprised how much you will like CLT.

Interested in doing any work down here?

I'm in Charlotte and need to have my ap1 retainers done. I've got an air conditioned garage and provide food and beer (and money)
