Outer Banks Run?
Any talk of putting together another Outer Banks Run? Even an unofficial semi-official one? I was out there in 2006, stayed in Avon in a seaside place that sleeps eleven - we were there in April and it was very reasonable.
It's a long drive for everyone to get out there from most places, but it is one of my favorite sites in the US. So unique, so beautiful, and so much history.

April may be booked for me.
How about a fall date? September?
When I was out there with my Mom in 2006, we ate a a restaurant where the owner was a licensed fish broker (meaning he was licensed to buy his own fish off the docks for his restaurant). The fish I had for supper was literally a few hours old. Outstanding!
The Outer Banks Run used to be annual but it isn't done anymore for a few reasons. Its way out of the way fo rmost people and there is nothing there. It stopped when the bridge was damaged.
We had an Outer Banks Run in 2002 and again in 2003. The 2002 event was quite nice, 47 S2000s attended and we went from Morehead City, NC to Cedar Island...took a 2.5 hour ferry ride to Ocracoke...drove to the north end, grabbed another ferry for 20 minutes. We visited Cape Hatteras, got chased out of the parking lot because we were "confusing the tourists..." LMFAO!
Oh...and when the Park Ranger asked me, "Who's in charge here!" And I replied, "You Are." He wasn't happy with that answer. I thought it was nice.

At any rate, we then drove to Kitty Hawk where we had our other hotel set up...had dinner and then in the morning, made our Kitty Hawk appearance.
All in all...it was a great time...but ALL OF THE ROADS ARE STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW!! Very boring, honestly...and the scenery is well...blah...just sand.
In 2003, we did the event once more and eliminated the ferry rides because of cost and capacity. The ferry from Cedar Island to Ocracoke can only accomodate about 55 S2000s. Plus, the ferry ride being 2.5 hours makes for some "down" time. Everyone was pretty excited at first...about 45 minutes into the ferry ride, we served lunch on board (customary SubWay - LOL) and that kept folks entertained. The last 30 minutes was when folks were itchin' to get off the damn ferry - LOL!

We even had an aerial photographer (same who snapped pics for the State on the "big move" for Cape Hatteras).
Again, all in all...great event...just not worthy, IMO, of setting up another. We lived...we learned.

Oh...so back to the 2003 event...we started it from New Bern (mistake #1, LMAO) and drove ALL the way to Kitty Hawk (HOLY COW)...and then we drove ALL the way BACK TO NEW BERN the _SAME DAY_!!

To Mulder's point...the Outer Banks really isn't that exciting to a bunch of roadster owners...no good roads...NC 12 is D_E_A_D! We canceled plans for 2004 because of some Hurricane (the name escapes me) which damaged the ever-fragile bridge that connects Hatteras.

I definitely see the point about the roads being straight . . . I guess the scenery is an acquired taste. The ferries and avilable parking for that many cars on the islands are certainly prohibitive - I didn't think about those logistics.
So . . . what beaches are there on the East Coast that have roads that aren't straight?

^LMAO!! The curviest road in Eastern North Carolina is literally a 2,500 ft stretch by the New Bern airport...

We do a very nice drive which is Old Maple Hill Road (I think). If Pinehurst was a "5," this road would be a 4. So go figure.
I need to find the aerial shots from OBX RUN 2002.

135 MPH Bridge Run
^True...well that WAS FUN!!

The bridge that carries you over to Manteo is straight as can be (as most bridges are, lol) and as soon as we hit the concrete with the S2000s, we were haulin' ASS!! As folks came off the bridge, they were calling out on their FRS Radios the "top speed."

But not at the same time.
