Default passing inspection

I have an AP2 that I bought with a skunk 2 exhaust and berk test pipe. It has the CEL fix on it and has never thrown a light the entire year ive owned it. I now live in Boone NC and cant find one place around town that will pass it because they have to visibly check for the converter. I thought it was because I had been registered in my prior emissions county so I changed it to Boone, which is a safety inspection only. I took it to three different places and they jacked it up and said it didnt have a converter and that they couldnt pass it still. This is extremely frustrating. Does anyone in the area know somewhere I can take it to pass inspection. Or have any suggestions.

They're being that way so they can sale you a Cat. They know why that light is on. If you bought an o2 simulator off ebay to go onto the berk's high flow cat it'll fix that CEL and you can take it to any other inspection place other than the ones you've been too. When they see that CEL they tend to look more into the car.

are you going to mom and pop shops or chains? emission county or not the catalytic converter is listed under the tampering inspection and I think you'll only luck out by going to a mom and pop shop. I have the berk test pipe too and I lucked out this year at an inspection place in rtp.

Jiffy lube hardly ever looks at anything on my car.
i dont have any upgrades or anything but ive gotten enough inspections to know that you never take your car to get inspected at a place that sells stuff you need for inspections.

take it to a jiffy lube at like 3 or 4. thats usually when the high school kids who work part time get out of school and inspect cars.
good luck

None of the places I have been to have tried to sell me anything. They all say I'm sorry we cant pass it but we have to visually see it. One guy even said if you get caught with that thing its like a 10k dollar fine.

@lazy s2k- they havent tried to sell me a cat and I already said it doesnt throw the CEL light, have the fix on it.

@chanjunc- I have went to two mom and pop places where I know guys who do oil changes but dont do inspections and they were still anal about it, puting it up on the lift.

Im just wondering if there is anybody in the area that you could recommend that would ensure it gets passed. Or even if there is anybody willing to let me borrow an old converter so I can get it inspected.

Take 30 minutes and put the cat back on for inspection. You did keep the old cat didn't you?

Technically the cat is part of the safety inspection, so you need to find a lazy or busy shop.

I only know this because one of my friends was a tech at Honda... hopefully he can get one of his ex-coworkers to pass my cars next year.
