Default PERFECT TIMING

So i am driving very easy and careful today as my car started making a deep pitched whine noise yesterday. So i
Noticed ArchAngel2K put a diff on the forum for sale and told him I would buy it from him today. On my way to meet him at gander mountain I accelerate onto skibo from Morganton and the diff goes boom. So now I gotta swap the diff out tomorrow and perfect timing right?!

Funny...weren't you, Kirk, and I just talking about your diff detonating the other night?! Nice timing dude.

N00b question and OT, is the secondary gear reduction located in the diff or on the driveshaft?

The secondary is between the output shaft and the secondary shaft in the rear half of the transmission. The ring and pinion are in the diff.

If your looking for a cheap secondary gear reduction, I wouldn't recommend it if you ever plan on FI. That gear is pretty maxed out to begin with.

I did look and the cotter pins were still there, but to ensure my regional coordinator was happy I went ahead and swapped them out just in case before he convinced me to start worrying and thinking about them lol. Thanks Kev

Well it did sound horrible and was a nasty sound, I was going fast enough I was able to coast into gander mountain. But I just finished the swap and it took me 2.5 hours by myself, 2 jack stands, a 1.5 ton floor jack and a 300 piece tool kit from sears! I was actually freaking out thinking I was gonna have to find a tranny just in case too. But alls well that ends well, thanks ArchAngel2k for the $100 diff in perfect timing and all. Oh and thanks for the support here guys, see ya Tuesday night for drinks!!

And I thought it sucked having to change my oil outside today! Nice job on the repair, good to know you won't be out of commission for any amount of time.

So do y'all on post have access to the Do-It-Yourself garage on post? Do you have to pay for it or is it free? Or did you do the work in the Gander Mtn parking lot ... I just recently found out about those places.
