Default Pilot vs. Highlander

So I have had it with my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has spent the last month and a half in the shop for various issues. Poor S2k is taking a beating on the interstate. My wife and I are trading the Jeep in for something more reliable. We are looking at both the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. Probably going to get something new and fairly loaded... leather, nav, 4wd, etc.

I know that I will probably get a biased response but I thought I would throw it out there anyways. Which suv would you prefer and why?

Thanks in advance for any help.

We've had a 06 Pilot for about 3.5 years and put on around 50k miles. I love it. It does a great job for what it is. It doen't drive like a truck and cuises on the highway nicely. We came back from the beach recently on I-40 and did most of it at around 85MPH. It seemed effortless. We've had 8 people in it (4 adults, 4 kids) quite a few times and it has been no issue.

At the time we were looking the Highlander was still the old style so we didn't compare. We did look at the new RAV4 and found it too small for our needs. The new Highlander does look nice though

No mechanical issues so far. The biggest complaint would be the MPG especially around town but to be honest for what it is it's to be expected.

I used to sell toyotas. We offered Toyota for life. Just a life long warranty really cant beat that. Tho I do drive a 05 pilot on the regular. Very smooth ride great power and alot of room. Both are very comparable. Really almost boils down to looks lol. Either way you cnt go wrong. Not like you asking about a Ford

I agree, can't go wrong either way.

When we were shopping for a new car, it boiled down to the price the dealer was willing to sell for. I wanted the Acura TL type S, but the Infiniti G35 Sedan ended up $5000 less!!! That made up my mind, no complaints.

Take the best deal, see who really wants to sell

We have a Honda 07 CR-V EX-L and I love it. In typical Honda fashion, it all just works right. One of the things I love outside of the obvious is how easy it is to change oil. The Filter is about 3 inches from the drain bolt at about the lowest part of the motor. I do my own maintenance so that sort of thing matters to me.

I say go for the Pilot...but I'm quite biased.

...and if it even matters, I was at the dealer to buy an '09 Pilot and left with a '10 Insight...I know, it doesn't even make sense how that happened. In the end, the Insight was everything I wanted and I couldn't justify the $12k price difference and 20+mpg difference.

No shame in that. I was looking at a Honda CBR but wound up with a Honda Ruckus (50cc).

Can't beat 70-100mpg and cheap ass insurance. Oh and get to park in between the meters for free, which is a huge deal here in Vancouver where in the day $2 usually gets you only 40min.

And to get back on topic I would pick whichever one I got the best deal on, although I do like how the Toyota looks better. The Pilot IMO looks like a super-sized Element (which I'm not particularly fond of, looks-wise). JMO.
