Default PPI in Charlotte, NC

I am officially on the hunt for an s2000. My biggest concern is finding someone who knows what to look for during a PPI, especially AP1's. Can anyone help me out or point me to a shop?

I want a compression test and have the retainers checked too..

I'm sure some of the Charlotte area guys will have a good suggestion of a shop.

I just wanted to say that, no matter where you go, having the retainers checked is going to be unlikely. For one, it's going to cost a good bit to have them pull the valve cover and do anything as part of a PPI (probably looking at a $200-300+ PPI). Second, I don't think any shop is going to want the liability of telling you whether the retainers may or may not be cracked simply from a visual inspection of whether the retainers are recessed slightly or not.

In my opinion, you'd be better off saving the money and putting it towards a retainer replacement job/parts after you purchase a good car.

Other than that, the PPI and compression check sound like a good idea.

I had a Honda dealership do mine. I was mainly concerned with mechanical issues and unless you use a specialty shop that has extensive knowledge of this particular car, that may be your best bet.

If someone knows of a shop that is familiar with S2000's that would be sweet. Otherwise I will just stick to a Honda dealership.

Thanks for the help, I'm excited to purchase an s2000!

short good luck with the search a couple common problems with s 2000 rear wheel bearing going bad and the rear axle drive flanges developing divots in them. with the rear wheel bearings there will be bearing type noise from the rear of a car and in extreme cases the wheel will be movable by hand when its on a .rack.the drive flange divots will be exhibited by extra vibration on moderate or hard acceleration. PPI is good but what's even better is to learn about this stuff yourself by reading the forum a lot so you can check it out and not have surprises down the road. don't be afraid of a high mileage car if the price is right. well maintained they are very reliable and can go well over 200k. my car has hundred seventy-three K on it with the original clutch and original brake pads. I just replace the front rotors they were within spec but slightly warped.

Thanks for the tips, I actually purchased an S earlier this week! I ended up taking it to a Honda dealership and everything checked out great.
