Honda OEM rotors are about $100 a wheel before labor. Not sure how performance after-market rotors compare in price or quality.

We will see after I go to my first track day but I didn't buy the car to necessarily track it - just want to learn some skills. So I may not need anything better than OEM in the long haul.
You'll be fine. There are basically two approaches when it comes to rotors and the stock S2000 brake system for track days.

1) Buy the cheapest rotors possible because you will crack them eventually and so the cheaper the better.

2) Spend $600 for nice two piece rotors that will last much longer.

Kind of six of one, half a dozen of the other. The difference between the cheap rotors and OEM is not significant for track days for sure.

It may be too short notice, but I will second the suggestion to bring extra rotors and pads. My first track day at CMP I went through a full set of pads that only had about 1k miles on them and ended up having to limp the car home on the backing plates. Granted it wasn't an s2k, but was about the same power and weight. CMP is just very hard on brakes and tires.

I'm getting at best 2 race weekends out of a set of autozone blanks, plus i carry two spare sets in the trailer.

If I stay with the stock brakes, I'll probably get the RacingBrake two piece rotors at $600 for the set. I baby the hell out of my rotors coming off track and they still don't last where the two piece rotors seem to stand up to an entire season of abuse. Even though I can change the front pads and rotors in under 15 minutes with hand tools and a floor jack, if I completely disregard the hassle my paypack period going to the two piece rotors is less than one season...assuming they last a full season that is.

So I have my HPDE at CMP on Monday - super jacked although I found a nail in my tire... but that is a different forum question.

Assuming I still go, what do y'all recommend I take with me? I am driving my car there and will take extra pads and tools. I thought of a floor jack, too, and maybe a lawn chair. I don't know the routine but I assume I will be in class when I am not on the track. Further, if I take stuff like a jack or a chair, what do I do with it while I am on the track? I don't want it rattling around the trunk.

So what's the routine and what do y'all think?

Forecast on Monday looks nice @ 61* and partly sunny. Here's some basics from my packing list that would be appropriate for a first event:

Helmet
Sunglasses
Hat
Jacket
Sunscreen
Snacks
Drinks
Jeans
Cotton shirts
Tennis shoes
Phone charger
Change of clothes
Windex
Paper Towels
Painters tape (for numbers)
Zip ties
Spare oil
Spare brake fluid
3/8" ID tubing (for bleeding brakes)
Spare brake pads
Air pump (CMP has air available at their gas pumps, so this is more convenience than anything else)
Tire gauge
Folding chair
Basic hand tools
Torque wrench

You won't spend every minute off track in a classroom, so it would be nice to have somewhere to sit. While on track, you will just leave all this stuff in your paddock spot. In over 2 years of track events I've yet to hear a single story of theft. Bring cash as well, the snack place over by T3 might be open for lunch and they don't take cards.

Wow. Good list. Glad I asked. Never would have thought of several of those things.

Paddock is not paved and the ground is sandy at CMP, so I put my stuff on a tarp to keep the sand out.

Your foot well will look a cat box by the end of the day ;-)

Well RedneckCPA? What did you think? Were you able to learn something about your car and controlling it? Is the hook set? Will you take your chances with another bite?

I actually ended up scrubbing. I got a nail in my rear left tire. The shop could not repair it and had no tires in stock. I have ordered the tires and am awaiting their install.

So I deferred. Very bummed as it was a nice day and I was already off of work. I live in Columbia but am in Greenville tonight where my brother (older bro can't be outdone by younger bro) just bought a sweet Z4 M package after driving my S2000. So now he is interested in CMP. SO we are going to try to find a day to do it together.

Can't wait. Scared to get hooked!
