Default Pumper's Haywood Road

So I was driving around this afternoon and was kinda in a pinch for a fill up (I keep forgetting about the Kangaroo near Moe's that has BP). I hooked a right into Pumper's and noticed that they had a few different grades of fuel; 87, 89, 90, and 91.

With the constant tumble of fuel prices; 90 Octane was sitting at $3.70/g and 91 was $3.76/g. I decided to drop the 90 in the tank and see how the car did. I have yet to notice a change in performance. I did notice a gasoline smell though, when I got in the car (might have been just me stepping in it).

Any one ever deviated from the suggest "Premium" octane level for their car? What happened? Also, I have started to notice that 93 isn't be carried at all stations in the upstate. I might just have to continue to gas up at BP.

I accidently put half a talk of 87 in one time. It didn't seem any different but I definately didn't make that mistake twice. And the only place I've seen that doesn't offer 93 is pumpers. They're all like that from what I've seen.

I would be worried about detenation (spark knock). High compression and low octane ratings are not a good combination.

Yeah, I don't know why people cheap out on gas when they have an option. When 93 is $0.10 more per gallon you are only saving less than $2 on a fill up. Why not just go with the 93? What's $2 in the scheme of things. Do it right.

It wasn't really about money, I was just curious. I have hard people running S2Ks on 89 and 87 before. I'm not that brave to put that low of octane in my car.

Although, I have noticed a decrease in fuel economy running 91 as opposed to running 93. BP (Kangaroo) at Haywood and Airport Rd (Moes, Chili's) is usually where I fill up in Gville.

PS. Easley has a BP with gas at $3.92/g. Didn't get it there because it wasn't on my way to Gville.

Liquid6, I wasn't calling you out. I was just making a general statement.

Usually when people run the lower octane it is because they want to save a few bucks. Atleast this is my understanding.

Thats the way I've always looked at it. Idk why people freak out about $2. That small amount extra is well worth my cars well being.

'Tis all good. I figured as much. I probably won't have bought this car had I been worried about the price of gas!

Take care of your car, and your car will take care of you my friend! Always use at least 91 octane in this car...
