Thumbs up Red NC License Plates?

I notice a few cars have the middle text in red instead of blue, anyone know if this is an option or NC's new standard?

NC switched to red ink because the blue wears off. Personally, I don't think they look as good and I think the red is harder to see. If you don't like it, just take a blue magic marker and "repaint" your numbers blue.

PS - chrome polish will take the blue right off. I don't know about the new red, but it may be the same case. Also, dry-ease markers will erase permanent marker.

Eventually - http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/hot_topics/PlateRecall.html

I'll be repainting my numbers blue when the day comes, if at all. There are almost 9 million NC plates and the state is replacing 1/2 mil per year, but is only funded through 2008 so far. I have a feeling that once the ancient 20 year old plates are replaced, the newer plates may not get replaced at all.

I heard on the news the other day that it cost $1.2 million to do the switch. Way to go politicians!! Our roads suck but we have nice new plates to drive on them with.

ever drive in southern NJ, western PA, or western NY? holy crap, you'll need new shocks from a weekend vacation!

plus, you live in weddington, roads arent as bad as say.....freedom drive!

a guy in politics once told me you can always tell which party controls government by the (general) condition of the roads.

Gawd...who in their right mind would want ANY red on their S2000??? Ugh! The very thought... (DEIGER, Ron, others)

Yep, I saw it on an older Mustang GT Convertible and thought... "how odd, that driver thought it looked better for his numbers/letters to be in RED."

Then I saw it on more and more cars and it came to mind that it's new or something...sure enough. Good post.
