Default Short Shifter Issue

As I came off the last session of the SESM track day at Talladega Grand Prix at 5:00 p.m. ( glad to have gotten a full day on the track) , I had an issue shifting into 1st and 2nd. Further investigation revealed that I could not fully engage 1st, 2nd, 5th or 6th and could not go into reverse at all. Luckily, I was able to get it loaded on the trailer as it would engage enough to move the car without grinding. Gravity and a slight hill made unloading a snap at home.

I have the Axialflow short shifter. There is a white bushing/dampener that was glued to the shaft. The glue let go and the white bushing/dampener slipped down interfering with the shifter. I put the stock shifter back in and it works fine.

I located the black rubber boot modification that was shipped with the shifter to reduce the buzz. I never installed it as the buzz didn't bother me and I liked the feel as it was. The instructions call for the removal of the white bushing/dampener and install the black rubber boot. That should put the short shifter back in business.

Just an FYI as I know other Carolina buds have this shifter.

Thanks, Jamie.

Steve had the same issue at the Dragon. Very scary until you pull the boot and realize it's just an interference problem and not nasty secret things happening deep in your transmission.

Yep...we thought it was a nasty problem...but I think it was God's intervention that allowed Jamie to ride with me on Saturday and partake of glorious techno sounds riddled with Bon Jovi classics and Dave Matthews...

Yep, priceless times making memories.

Also, I learned that airgate has SMAD (Short Music Attention Disorder). Did you know he never listens to a whole song? I also got to hear the techno beat that I have always heard from driving behind him. You know, the one that sounds like a mechanical issue with his car.

Short shifter on an S! I was very impressed with the stock one. How much did it reduce shift time?

I had a prototype axialflow SS that didn't come with the white plastic piece, but with the stock shift knob you shouldn't have much rattling at all. I only ran into some nasty vibration issues with the shorter axialflow lever when I tried putting an aftermarket shift knob on it. Did you try to use it without the plastic band aid that they came up with?

I don't know that it saves that much time. It is a bit of a shorter throw. I really like the feel of the short shifter. You can actually feel the synchronizers engaging. It has a very mechanical feel to it that I find satisfying.
