Thinking of joining the army.
12 years enlisted here, wife is an officer, both parents retired officers and prior enlisted. We've all done well for ourselves and my wife is the only one of us that hasn't been enlisted. My dad credits his enlisted time as a crew chief to his exceptional career as a fighter pilot for the following 25 years (now an airline pilot). In my time, I was able to learn and do things that college would never teach and I did it at an accelerated rate. In addition, I did all that while attending college in my off time. To say you're throwing your life away is far from the truth... It IS, what you make of it.
Now is the military for you... You won't really know until you've done it for a period of time.
absolutely agree with "It IS, what you make of it" I'm in the Marines right now and am coming up on my 4 year mark in a couple months. I had no plans for military my entire life, no family military. A friend of mine just had joined..said I should check it out, so I did. I signed up the next day in fact. Mainly because the way I looked at it was I wanted to try something new, I wanted to travel, and my recruiter hyped it up haa. But I got to live in Japan for 2 years, in NC now. I don't regret it at all. I'm not here to make it a career so I will be a civilian here soon but that doesn't mean I regret it at all. I would do it again and again. Great experience, but as its said in the beginning... "it is what you make of it".. take the hard times with a grain of salt and take advantage of the good times. It's an experience and in MY opinion, I think everyone should do at least 4 years. But to say throw you life away..sorry thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Man if you wanna retire out of it who knows how old you are if your 20 or so.. RETIRED by your 40... yea life sucks huh haha
