Default Tired of California

My family is from NC, Dad was born in Cherry Point. I've always lived in Southern California, but so many people and everything is so expensive, especially the nice areas. Thinking about Charlotte since I work in banking. Probably not a good time to make a job change knowing how the banking industry is doing and the fact my job is somewhat irreplaceable, but if I get made redundant (FIRED!) then heading for NC is a possibility.

So what do you all dislike most about NC/SC and Charlotte in particular if you live there? Trying to get a feel for the things that are irritating or annoying because I know every place has them. In California, for those interested, it's really the lack of space, the high prices, the traffic and the fact that people aren't all that interactive. Probably because they are too busy working and commuting.

And ah... How are the girls?

Yea my dad accually just lost his job at wachovia after 4 years of working with them. They said he was a unneeded assect to the company and need to cut cost so they had to cut someone kinda high up rather then cutting a few people a little lower down the ladder.

Charlotte is a nice place to live I love it. I live 30 mins right outside charlotte and land is somewhat cheap and so are houses. 30 mins one way and you are way out in the country and 30 mins another you are right in the city best of both words in union county.
The night life is great also there are a lot of clubs (forum, bar charlotte, ally cats) Forum is the best personally.
Girls are very nice for the most part to me. I just came back from bar charlotte and was able to basically dance with any or all girls I wanted and they were all pretty friendly.

Charlotte is great! It's more laid back than Cali for sure. I was born and raised here, moved away for about 5 years and now i'm back, i love it.

Cherry Point FTW! I lived in New Bern for nearly 10 years...and managed retail locations onboard the Cherry Point MCAS. Great place.

I moved from New Bern to Charlotte nearly 2 years ago and like it. Home prices are very comprable...and of course, compared to sections of California, will make you feel as if you're at an Outlet store. For the size of home we own in Charlotte, we would've paid at least $350k in New Bern and we bought our home in Matthews (SouthEast Charlotte) for less than $220k.

Lots of things to do in Charlotte. I love the city...having the Carolina Panthers here is nice too. The mountains and more importantly...the Dragon...is only 3.5 ~ hrs away.

You would be very wise during this time to pick up a nice price on a solid home...lots of great values are in the area. Best of luck.

When did you become the head of the Charlotte area Chamber of Commerce?

Hustling real estate too?

I moved from NY to the south 17 years ago. I lived in allot of places and settled in Raleigh 11 years ago. I now live in Wake Forest and we love it. There is allot more going on here then when we first came here.

As for your questions. I am sure that home pricing is a no brainer. I lived on LI and what they consider traffic here would probably be equivalent to say 10:00 to midnight where you are now. Charlotte traffic is worse from what I understand but still not that bad. As far as interactive people. Around here don't ask someone how they are doing unless you REALLY want to know because they will tell you. One of the other post did mention the heat and it is hot (more humidity) then there. My wife is from Socal and she said there is a big difference there. But hell when you are sitting in your 3500 square foot house on 1 1/2 acres and it cost a 1/3 or less then what you would pay out there the electric bill doesn't seem that bad.

Changing jobs sucks but if you are going to have to do it anyway this is a great part of the country to live in IMHO.

Good luck.
