Default Tires

I have 2 extra wheels sets, sitting in the garage, that need new rubber.

I am also wanting to increase tire width, over stock. So, I am looking for feedback as to how wide one can go (fronts/rears) and not have tire rub issues.

All suspension is stock, with no lowering having been done.

Also, every time I've been about to pull the trigger and purchase tires...I discover that the tires I wanted have been discontinued. So, here I am asking what tire brands/models have you had the best success. I'm more interested in Extreme Performance/Max Performance choices.

For stock 16" rims you would suggest:

For ASA 17" rims you would suggest:

Thanks, in advance, for your help and suggestions.

I ran bfg gforce sports on 16's and my asa 17's I had. good tire dry or wet. the new comp 2's are even nicer. my new s has 16's and it came with kumho ecsta 4x and they seem to be a pretty decent tire for the money. they are ultra high performance all season tires. guess it depends on the kind of driving you will be doing. good luck on your choice.

Steve, I am running Hankook V12 on my AP1 with 17" wheels. Great for twistys and good in the wet. I usually run Dunlop Star Specs which are great tires but I decided to try the Kooks because of the price.

You need to tell us what you really want out of a tire before we really can make suggestions. How often do you drive the car? How many miles per year are you driving? Is it your daily? Will it see snow this winter? Do you track the car? Whats the offset and rim width of the ASAs?

Lee, thanks for the input...are you maintaining the stock tire sizes, or have you gone with wider tires?

Running stock sizes with the exception of going 17 on the AP1.

Answers these questions and we can give you better advice.

I am running Star Specs 255R/225F on stock 17" rims and it is pretty damn good for sunny days and handles okay in the wet but you will go through them pretty fast if it is a daily.

you also drive that car about 500 miles per year Star specs are epic tires but the most I ever got out of a set was less than 7500 miles.
