Wake the Dragon 2007
Okay, I'm totally going to WTD this year - I have my vacation time set and the car will be ready, but I'm a noob and need advice on where to stay at Fontana, how people usually split rooms, what a non-enthusiast wife might do while I'm driving, etc.
Can any vets help me out?

In the past at fontana we have had 4 people in a cabin both times (4 beds so if couples were involved we could have had more really). Some might disagree but unless your wife enjoys very spirited driving on the most rediculous mountain road you will ever run across I would leave her at home. Fontana is kind of in the middle of nowhere and there isn't all that much to do.

Friday is registration, we may have some type of social event or may hold that off till lunch Sat. Saturday morning. 8ish we will have the drivers meeting followed by the roll-through from Fontana through the Dragon and back to the crossroads of time. From there you are free to run all you want. We may have organized drives in the area also... not sure yet. The dinner banquet normally starts at 7.. we eat, then do the prizes and raffle give away. Sunday, say your goodbyes, run the dragon again if you want and head home.
Saki, we are planning on offering some moderately-paced afternoon drives on Saturday for those who may not want to stay on the Dragon all day, to some scenic destination sites such as the Blue Ridge Parkway and Highlands. More to come on this...
We're also looking into the POSSIBILITY of Fontana offering a side trip to somewhere like Cherokee for a day, for the "non-enthusiast" + 1's, but that's still a "maybe" at this point, so stay tuned.
I would suggest you stay in the Inn if your wife goes, unless you know of some fun folks you'd like to share a cabin with. Fontana also has an indoor pool, and they can book massages and things like that if you're interested.
