What are you thinking of or Wondering about?

The forums have been quiet so wanted to start a general talk thread of what's on your mind RE: S2000's. Be it maintenance, modifications for performance or looks, meets or local weekend FUN DRIVES.

Thanks for posting Jim.

I have commented many times about how the energy of the S2K community has faded.
My only recent change has been that I installed the front spoiler and had the top painted to match. My AP1 looks a good as it has ever looked.
I'm all for seeing this crowd get together for some drives or just meeting for lunch.
See you around.https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...1fa6433ee2.jpg

I find myself daily thinking about how I (really, Mel, Lil Chalupa, & I) can move back to the mountains ASAP. Our family, and the car, are mountain people!

We already have the house but jobs are rare in WNC! Unless you're in medical...

Right now the goal is by 2020 but I have a feeling it will be sooner than that!

I am in the middle of putting in new FLOOR MATS. After 18 years and only 1 post holding the floor mat in place I can't wait to get both a double post holder as well as one that covers the hump in the floor! :excited:

I have the full length Honda Access mats but have yet to install the actual bracket/posts. Surprisingly, they don't slide around!

There's pretty much nothing left for me to do to the S2000 interior/exterior wise other than to get the car resprayed & the front lip installed.
Engine wise, I'm considering pulling the head this winter and having it rebuilt. Leak down shows the valve stem seals and seats are my problem . Perhaps get the injectors cleaned while I'm at it.

But then again, I could very well run another 100,000 miles with the engine as is. We all know what they say about opening up the motor...DON'T, unless you really have to...

Since mine can't see the street and nobody wants me to show up to a meet in my sweet ass gold CRV, I'm just more doing routine race maintenance and getting quotes for upgrades depending on where I want to take the car next. Also picked up a BMW E30 to build for endurance racing...well technically two E30's but between them both we should be able to get one complete car and then sell the rest. Haven't posted much in the Autox and Trackday thread since it's mostly just me in there now.

I wish I had more tracking s2000's around. Everyone here who has one either just wants to keep it stock or scrape the whole bottom away. Its like Im on an island.

I’m sure it shows in desktop version but doesn’t list on iOS...where do you live?

Yep, pretty much an island. Make sure you come find us next weekend.

I've been missing the Charlotte crew, car events, etc... I've been pretty much working 2 jobs lately.

Overall been loving the supercharger setup - BUT beginning to dislike the Vortech bracket. Belt replacement is a bit cumbersome, and the only real blower upgrade option (new v7) is ~$3500. There is a possibility I end up going with a turbo setup, but it'll probably be 18 months before I take the plunge. If I went that direction, I'd go with the newer g25 turbo & Schmuck manifold / hot parts. We'll see if I end up going that direction.

Hope to see you guys soon.

Will do.

PenguinS2000 06-13-2018 05:25 PM

I need to inspect my bushings and mounts. I'm good about changing fluids but seem to skip thorough inspections when the car is on a lift. I should probably go ahead and replace the TCT too.

Other than that, I would love to have the front bumper repainted with a clear bra applied. I need new floormats and new fender liners as well. It never ends :(

I am sinking that we are about to die.

Pinky 07-05-2018 09:19 AM

I am thinking it's TOO HOT!!!! Damn Mr. Summer take it easy on us would ya!

will010100 07-05-2018 01:15 PM

Dehydration and heat exhaustion are not the same thing; one can occur without the other. Last weekend I was at an event at VIR. Between driving and instructing, I was in a car 1 hour and out for 30 min.

I drank over one gal of water and Gatorade before 1 PM and still got heat exhaustion. I was sweating profusely (my cool shirt was wringing wet), chills, shaking uncontrollably, nausea, and vomiting (just water).

Saturday was a bad day. I decided to sit out every other session on Sunday and spend an hour in the ACd classroom most of the time. Not much fun, but not miserable either.

Between the two days, I drank 30 16oz bottles of water, 8 20oz Gatorades, and slept for 12 hours Sunday night.

The point is, when it's this hot, don't assume hydration alone will save you. Take care to keep your body cool.

WOW!!! Glad you are ok now and that you were able to listen to your body. That's a great example and detail of the difference. The converse to that if you STOPPED SWEATING in the heat that would is a clear sign that you are dehydrated.

will010100 07-06-2018 11:22 AM

If you stop sweating that's the next level after heat exhaustion - heat stroke - extremely dangerous.

I'm always on the lookout for parts for my project E30! Let me know if you need to get rid of anything.

Latest consumption report and UOA:

In the S2000 I'm now down to 1qt/1100 miles :(

UOA (Amsoil XL) showed excellent wear metals and Blackstone suggested I go from 7000 OCI to perhaps 8000 but i think I'll just stay at my 7,000 mile/2x year routine that I've had for years...the OEM filter seems to have a sweet spot of 6-8,000 miles anyways...

Do the math, I add approx 6qts back to the engine, which is crazy! I'll be happy when this F20 dies...hahah. Compression is relatively low, 175, but it's consistent across all 4 cylinders. I haven't performed a full leak-down in 75,000 miles, so that's on the "to-do."

The UOA for my Civic Si was excellent though! I'm running Amsoil SS and my OCI is 14000 miles with a filter change (OEM) at 7K. Blackstone suggests I go to 16K! Maybe I'll split the different and run 15,000 miles.

The Equinox (Amsoil XL) looked excellent at 12K. Blackstone suggested I stay at 12k, like I have for the past 100,000 miles on that car...

The push mower running amsoil is a champ too! That thing has lasted 12 years and starts on 1 pull!

InsaneSp 07-10-2018 12:11 PM

Got another Blackstone report on Monday, this time with 18 hours of track/race abuse on it, 1/4 quart make up during that interval. Based on this and prior results, they recommended a 30 hour interval next. I think I'll stick with 18-20 hours which is 5 race weekends.

Afterfire 07-11-2018 10:51 AM

Im mis-shifting a lot, going into 2nd instead of 4th. I havent had an issue at all until the past 3 or 4 events and the majority has been on straights and the last time was back to back like I couldnt even find the gate. I have an innovative trans mount arriving today. I hope it solves the issue because Im becoming gun shy upshifting into 4th and its affecting my times. This happen to anyone else?

InsaneSp 07-11-2018 01:09 PM

I'm in need of upgraded motor, trans, and diff mounts. Watching my videos from 2+ years ago and others in general and comparing that to mine now, the deterioration in shifter play is noticeable.

PenguinS2000 07-12-2018 03:40 PM

My transmission has developed a grind going from the top of 3rd into 4th. Every other gear at any RPM is fine

Check fluid level. Mine has a similar grind under certain conditions on track and I found adding a little more fluid seemed to help.

Good idea! Thank you!

I'm hoping for a meet in Raleigh or the surrounding area in the near future. I missed the cars and coffee this past Saturday because I was out of town. If anyone has a listing of events coming up, I'd love to get those details.

Set it up.

S2000 meet and greets are very rare these days. The car changes hangs so fast no one knows whom even owns an S2000 anymore, haha.

There's a big cookout in Charlotte this coming Saturday.

I'm a big fan of any lunch at Merritt's...

Wondering when you're gonna get your ass down to my place and help me do these retainers :p

I am wondering if you are ever going to not be busy or get your kid on a nap schedule.
