Default wheel bearing

hi
I'm getting the squeaking sound from the rear...after lots of research in "under the hood forum"....most possible problem is the wheel bearing that has to be replace..now somebody knows of any good shop(experience) where i can take it, just to be sure...and how much do they charge to fix the problem...appreciate any help, thanks..

boy, this is like an epidemic. We did BlueIon's wheel bearing and hub about 2 months ago and have seen several people with bad wheel bearings post on the board since then.

His was done in my garage, I'm not sure how much a shop would charge...sorry

I'd definitely suggest replacing the hub at the same time. Should be ~$130 or so in parts if you order through HardtopGuy or another online parts store.

I'm also not sure how much a shop will charge to do the job. Honda wanted like $200 for labor, I think, which is ridiculous... If you're handy with a wrench, following the instructions on how to remove the hub/knuckle yourself will save you a lot of money. The press-work is cheap if you can just carry in the parts to be worked on.

Good luck!

Yep. And it takes a big, manly press to pull off the task.

My 20 ton did it without a problem. I have never considered a 20 ton press big and manly, but maybe. A 20 ton press is standard for automotive work. The only thing I can think of that a 20 ton can't be used for is axle tubes.. THAT takes a BIG, MANLY press for sure...

The 20 ton I was using couldn't pull it off. The 30 ton press that was used to do the job was struggling.

OH REEEALLY?

Damn, have to go give my press a pat on the back.

My press is old too, I have serious doubts if its still putting out all 20 tons, LOL.

The heat from a bad bearing could have caused bad lock up and rust issues maybe? I don't know what to tell you...

I don't think it could've been too bad off. I didn't roll with it for very long. First night I heard noise, I tried re-torquing the hub nut, went for a drive, heard the noise and parked the car. Next day, I drove it to my buddy's shop to get it on the lift and get to work.

Meh, anyway, it doesn't matter. I got the press-work done for free. I just wanted to let him know that if he had struggles with pressing it, 'tis normal. The guy who did my presswork agreed that it's typical for wheel bearings to take a lot of effort to pop out.

SOOOO after all that, do go give your press a pat on the back.
