Default Where to buy/try race apparel and helmets?

I'm taking the Exige to the track for the first time next week.

I need to pick up a helmet and possibly gloves/shoes. Does anyone know of a store that sells these items where I could try them on in person? I would prefer near Raleigh, but willing to drive if need be.

Thanks!

Try any Motorcycle shop in your area.

Not sure of a store in Raleigh, however there is a big Simpson Store in Mooresville, NC and a CDOC Store at VIR where you can try things on.

I bought most of my SCCA req'd racing gear from SafeRacer.com and used their sizing charts for my Sparco Fire Proof Suit, Gloves, shoes etc. I did'nt buy my Bell helmet there though, I had tried on one at the CDOC Store at VIR, found the size I needed and shopped around.

I'll be there tomorrow also for the SCCA March Memories Qualifying--->NCR-SCCA March Memories Weekend Schedule

You'll be impressed with the amount of racing gear they have there, however it's a bit pricey. There were other race supply vendors at SCCA races but they (VIR) put a stop to that when they set-up the retail store.

Trying on motorcycle helmets may be ok for determining your size, but aren't appropriate for track use in a car. Most tracks will want SA2005 certification that motorcycle helmets don't have. Most online dealers have measuring charts to determine size. I got full face G-force Pro Force 1 for about $250 from Apexperformance.net and got a free helmet bag and head sock with it.

Hope This Helps,

I agree with dr, if you do not own a bike and mainly are buying to track your car, Snell SA2005 is the way to go.....You cannot go wrong with the added fire-resistant liner of SA vs. M-rated helmets.

I have already resigned myself to the fact that I will have to spend a fair amount of $$ for a helmet, shoes etc.

I'll look for an s2k at the track if I go tomorrow!
