Default Where to live in Charlote

Don't worry Raul, I'm not moving to Charlotte!

My son will be heading that way as his girlfriend just got a job as a teacher with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district.

Was wondering if you could let me know what parts of town he should stay away from, and which parts would be good for a couple of 25 year olds....

They are looking at buying a house, so any area that is "good", plus has inexpensive houses would be a plus...

Thanks,

If she is a teacher she should probably move somewhere near that school.

but in general, ballantyne(and south across the borner), rea road area, carmel road, matthews-on the left side of independence, downtown in 1st and 4th ward, anywhere on providence road, dilworth and south end are all desirable locations right now.

stay away from west anything, freedom drive, wilkinson blvd, idlewild road, east harris, albemarle inside charlotte, mint hill inside the beltway,

in downtown---stay away from anything north of the beltway unless its right off of 4th or trade streets, stay away from anything higher than 12th street, optima (sp?) park, and what they now call "warehouse row"---the smell from the industrial plants is very disturbing during the day.

if they want to move downtown, let me know. I work downtown and know the area pretty good. Plus, anything they buy downtown will turn into gold.

Oh Lord!! I was really scared for a minute!

Anna and I chose the Matthews area for our home and we really like it. From work, its about 20 minutes and with traffic never over 30 minutes.

Simply prepare them...if they are picky at all, it will take a little while!

The absolute BEST realtor is the one we worked with! Gloria Harvitt from Coldwell Banker. She will take great care of your son! She is what other Realtors want to live up to be...seriously! Anna and I really enjoyed working with her! This was only our 3rd house, but she was by far the very best we have ever dealt with!

I'll post her number here in a minute...

Also, once they've settled in to the area, let us know...I'm sure we could meet them to learn some dirt on YOU!!!

wow, I second and third everything said above - dre especially knows where it's at.
I'd also throw the pineville area in there, around carolina place mall and park.johnston rd - though they do have to be careful not to get near south blvd - that area is kind of hit and miss but I find it way convenient for the "hit" areas.

I visited the Ballantyne area about a month ago and I was VERY impressed by the area. There are lots out houses over there that are out of the price range for most 25 year old couples, but a few miles down the road on the SC border there is some much more affordable housing for those that are starting out. My family is thinking seriously about relocating to the Ballantyne area and leave wilmington and its hillbillies behind.

If you don't mind me throwing in my $.02. If they could live in Union County ie: Weddington, Indian Trail, Wesley Chapel they may be able to get a bit more home as the property taxes are far less than in Mecklenburg. Just a thought
