Woodside Plantation
I am going to go down to Aiken, SC to look over the Woodside Plantation as a possible place to retire someday. Anyone know about this place and have been here? Your input will be greatly appreciated.

There's a retirement place in Aiken, SC?
SC is great, don't get me wrong. In fact, I don't think I'd rather be anywhere else. But Aiken seems like an odd place to me. I guess it's close enough to Augusta & Columbia though...
I checked out their website and it looks pretty sweet.
Cost of living is pretty low here in SC, which is nice. The weather is, of course, better than VA! There's a great lake here in the Columbia area (Lake Murray), as well as mountains in the northwest corner of the state. The beach is about 2 hours from Aiken, and big cities (Charlotte/Atlanta) are within a reasonable drive. So, that being said, I'd say it's fairly well located. Just not much right there in Aiken, I don't think.
Anyway, good luck with your visit!

^Thank you for your response. I am going to be in Atlanta, GA and will be driving down to Aiken to check it out. I am not a golfer but from what I heard, the place sounded interesting. We will see.

^Thank you! I will take that under advisement. Looks really nice but quite expensive.

i know someone that lives at the cliffs at glassy in landrum,sc. he inherited 40M from his parents if that gives you an idea of what kind of bank you need to retire with hehe. its pretty intense. houses go for 2-3 million and there are 3-4 private golf courses there that go for $125 a round. it kinda blows your mind especially when you go down the road a few miles and there are trailers...woot
as for aiken, its a popular retirement place. ive been there a bunch and there are "retire in aiken" billboards all over the place. i really have no idea why. its really a crappy place. roanoke,va is nice - um...other option could be the asheville area

^Yikes! I can't retire for another 300 years to save up enough to buy a place over there. Maybe my great great great great great grandson can afford to live there.

I can't take the summer heat, and in the winter I miss the snow.

I only lived in VA for 4 years while going to school in Blacksburg (45 min South South West of Roanoke, but I miss the mountains like they are home.
Man, I'm startin' to sound like it's time for a move.

I grew up in Aiken and Woodside is a nice community. It is fairly new, compared to some other areas in the city. I believe it was opened in the mid 1980's. There are some great areas (South Boundary, Hitchcock Woods, etc.) where you can still find some great old homes needing some love that I think you may enjoy more. Woodside is a beautiful community, but it doesnt have the soul that some other areas of town do.
Wherever you choose, it is a great place to live. I miss it very much.
Good luck.
